Just to instill authority in Ange to the players and any new signings, and get the media off his back. If we lose 7 of the first 10 games they can still replace him. No sir - respectfully but strongly disagree - Ange still has 2 years left on his deal - plenty of time. We do not need to extend his contract.

Five EPL managers started the season with less than 2 years left on their deals as of last summer and survived - Pep, Iraola, Glasner, Nuno and Silva. Pep had one year and got an extension mid-season.

Another 3 (Dyche, TenHag and Lopetegui) got the sack.

So 40% of EPL managers had 2 or less years on their contract going into the season - So not all unusual.


As for the 5 managers that survived the season - All of them performed and I didn't hear any speculation about any of them being dead men walking because they didn't have more than 2 years left on their deals - So we perform better in the league under Ange to start next season and there will be no speculation - If the team is flailing then there will be rampant speculation whether or not the contract is extended - just like there was this season with 3 years left on Ange's deal ...

Winning the Europa may save his job - but he should have to earn an extension this winter or next summer by showing much better in the league ...

I think this could be the summer Newcastle get going. 250m warchest available and in for Mbuemo and Delap already.

Its going to be really difficult to qualify for CL in future bearing in mind Liverpool, City, Newcastle and Woolwich are so strong.

......And at the end of the day he's out on loan, building up his value (even if it's just as a credible lower table player) and having minimal impact on our squad building in the here and now.

Not really - could get 10M for Phillips and another 70M for Archie and Odo. That’s not minimal impact

Disagree. If Levy says nothing we’ll have massive speculation about his job before a ball is kicked and will put untoward pressure on Ange and the players. Levy needs to alleviate that pressure by either replacing Ange, or by giving him his backing. Hypothetically, what harm would a new 3-year contract do if he’s only entitled to 12 months notice? None. What would it say to the media and potential new signings? Everything. It’s win - win (if he stays).

I'm also interested to see if Ashley Phillips can do a job for us in the backup VdV role. He's apparently got a lot of speed and maybe can kind of play a similar role, at least defensively.

Maybe we can be the first club to offer a contract flexion (which I think is the right word) and give Ange a pay bump on a new contract that runs until the 1st June. That way, he isn't technically sacked - it's just a new contract on new terms that we won't renew :ange-arms:

Agree- and I’m surprised they didn’t more last summer. It’s a situation a bit like in the game risk- they’ve been holding back a card set and now have an opportunity to unleash outsized resources to back a particular objective.

I have no idea what Villa will do now, but incredibly it seems like they might just continue on as is. Between Newc, AV, Forest and the usual others (Chavs/Dippers/Goons/City) we have an enormously tough task ahead of us, especially if we won’t compete on spending.
