Transfers The Summer Transfer Thread 2025

The simple solution for me is to upgrade Bissouma with a proper 6. Wharton and Baleba would be the dream but imagine we'll find someone cheaper. If we don't do that and have the same midfielders next season then the club has failed to address a very obvious issue.

Yeah but that’s the problem. Just getting any old 6 because Frank is adaptable is a Levy wet dream but likely causes the exact problem I’m talking about

Trouble with our squad is that you could throw a blanket over a lot of them quality wise as there all similar, especially in attack. Pretty much all our attackers are around a similar abilities just different ages.
We will need yo sacrifice and replace with 1 or 2 of top quality.

I'd sell son, Solomon, and kulu (yes that's a controversial one) and sign eze, mbeuno and keep tel. Also have moore and lankshear in the squad.

Midfield 3 with double pivot is abit more clear. I'd sell bissouma and sarr and buy ederson or Luiz.

After that sign a lb/lcb cover and tell romero he going nowhere for a year

With the exception of the Johnson reference, I couldn't disagree more with this assessment of Semenyo.

He's a tank... rapid, with particularly explosive acceleration, strong on-the-ball, and extremely two-footed.

His best position is LW, but he can also play on the right.

He's 6" taller, 6-months younger, and is valued @ €15M less (per Transfermarkt) than Mbeumo, whose best position is RW or 2nd striker.

Gotta say that I've liked what I've seen every time I've watched Semenyo play.

Funnily enough, he reminds me a bit of Dembele, with a little dusting of Ronaldinho just in the way he moves.

Before the more rabid on here start frothing at the mouth, I'm not comparing him to either player, just that certain aspects of his play and body movement remind me of them.

I really wouldn't be unhappy if we did manage to get him. I'm sure Solanke would likely feel the same way too.

I think the question you ask yourself is whether you're getting two great seasons out of Romero as a leader and core player, or are you getting a guy whose focus is on the World Cup that whole time?

The former is worth more than 40M, the latter isn't.

Romero isn’t a guy you keep around when you’ve just sacked his beloved coach and refused to sell him to Atleti when he wanted to go.

He’s got no reason to be, he’s Argentina captain, he’s got no selection issues.

Something to keep in mind:

We used to have Kane and Son, 2 legit world class forwards.

We sold Kane and kept Son long enough that he’s not WC anymore.

We are about to sell our best player and closest player to world class status (Romero) and also likely sell Son.

We will sign mid range punts to replace them both.

Highest ticket prices in Europe
Even more reason why Levy MUST buy 2/3 of Mbeumo, Eze or Semenyo. Our attack needs help badly if we are to compete in CL and PL next season.

Can see Romero going to Bayern,
Athletico Madrid need a full new quota of defenders,
Barcelona and Real Madrid simply because they are top attractions for south american footballers
and possibly PSG just because they can afford him

Where he actually ends up is the big question im not sure many other clubs on the continent could afford to buy him

You know that. I know that. Levy might know that but we both know it’s not going to happen.

We’ll be lucky to get one of those 3
I'm really hoping we have a similar summer to 23/24 tbh, whatever you think of our current first XI's ability we signed 4 players (VDV, Maddison, Johnson, Vicario) who have consistently been a part of that first XI over the course of Ange's tenure. They all cost north of £40m bar Vicario, who actually may need replacing the most on that list IMO. If we sign 3-4 players who at bare minimum improve the first XI that will hugely benefit us for depth assuming we ditch or loan whoever currently serves as backup and replace them with current first team players who then become squad players. Levy threw a lot of money behind the Ange project to begin with because of how many doubts there were over the appointment, I think he's liable to do the same with Frank, I don't think we will make the same mistake again that we did with Nuno when our summer business amounted to the Romero loan and Bryan fucking Gil.

I dont get Man U going for Mbuemo. They've got a terrible goalie, defence and central midfield. Why arent they sorting those out. Sure they need a number 9 too. But Mbuemo seems unnecessary for them.

We seem to be linked to so many wingers and Centre Backs. We will end up with ten wingers and eight CB's.

We already have lots of wingers, so unless we sell some of them we will have way too many.

For me the priority should be a top quality DM but I seem to the odd one out, most of the fan base want to sign more wingers.
I agree DM is a concern, but I also think we could see what Biss and Gray can do under Frank

And RW/RF is the weakest first XI position IMO. Kulu is decent as a 10 and even ok as a 9, but really not great at all as a RW

Geez, 3-4 first XI players... we'll be lucky. TBH, as long as he was very very good (say Mbeumo) I'd take one player this summer. I'd rather have one genuinely top class PL proven player than more prospects.

Cannot be losing players of Romero's calibre, yes he has had a couple of inconsistent seasons, but no better defender in the league with the ball at his feet and with a proper number 6 in front of him and not playing a kamikaze high line he will thrive like he does at international level.
Levy cannot be trusted to replace him with someone of the same calibre and if he goes then why would Vdv not be thinking of doing similar, we got to change the mentality of being a selling club and keep our best players and more importantly make them want to stay by paying them correctly and being competitive at the top of the league.
No point in changing the manager unless we back the new guy.

The idea of letting Romero go so easy is just so stupid, the guy is easy one of the top 5 defenders in the world now and people treat him like he was Michael Dawson.
