Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Huddlestone was so bad he was first choice DM in a season we cracked top 4 for the first time. 🤣

His issues were exaggerated. He was positionally sound and was brilliant off both feet

Huddlestone
& Modric in a midfield 2. No need for a Palhinha in sight.

Huddlestone was one of those players only rated by Spurs fans ( Gray may be one).
He was so brilliant off both feet - he managed to get virtually no goals or assists in about 10 seasons.
His shots goals ratio was terrible.
Huddelstone struck the ball cleanly - but he was like a wayward golfer. No direction or weight of pass.
He ended up in the Championship - which was his true level

when we Hudderstone play often the TV commentators would say "he has great feet, great passing," etc, I would say to my lad "well why does every shot go high or wide"
like most times you watch the matches on TV, these commentors are fed lines by the club and they feed them to those watching , ( its just the club getting their message out there)
often you watch tv matches and its clear the TV commentors have not watched many ( insert club) spurs matches this or that season As they say " they have been playing well" and you know they (team or player) has been awful

It's truly transfer season baby!!
This is the shit I live for

You must have an Awful Life. Transfers at our Club have been Abysmal at Best.

Only thing worse than Living for a Spurs Transfer Window, is living for a Spurs January Transfer Window.

But let's see what the Bargain Bin holds for us this season.

This is why:

The commentators can't watch every player every week so they remember the highlights. And boy when he did score, they were some of the cleanest strikes you'll ever see. Mad combination of power and finesse.

Only 15 goals but fuck me that's a fun watch.

For a massive unit he was a bit of a wuss in my opinion , got bullied physically in games .

He signs Palhinha but plays Bentancur more.

He signs Xavi but he once benched him 4 games in a row and seemingly no idea how to play him best.

He signs Tel on permanent but OK letting him go on loan.

He doesn't know what he's doing.
You genuinely think Tel, who was conveniently here on loan last season, was a Frank purchase?

You think Ange loved Werner so much he signed him twice?

Spurs managers get the final say, sure. But it's more of a rubber stamp.

I've always thought it's a "uhh this is the best we can do so it's either this guy or no one."
That's EXACTLY what it is.

Or 'club' signings that Conte talked of, like Spence, that the club by as an investment hoping to one day flip for a profit.

I just can't believe there are still people on here that honestly think the manager has some major influence on which players this football club signs.

If you think simply better than player X or Y is the only answer to building football teams im not sure the world you inhabit is any more real. I recall how well he played against city in the cup its about balance.

The usefulness of some of our youth players short term is a far more nuanced debate than say Xavi good Donnely bad. How big is that gap do you think? Because the point is bigger than Donnely. Short term a braver coach can use what he has as opposed to pissing away 58 million on a Simmons who may athletically be no better than some of the kids. This is the substantive point.

Pochettino used Bentaleb and Mason short term to get an incremental gain. Were they long term fixes no they weren't, no more than a Donnely or Ajayi might be, but they dont have to be 'better' just have utility for our current issue. Nuance ....
The way I see it as well is a youth player given a chance will give 100% where are some of the cunts in our squad are giving 60% at best

The idea that Donley is anywhere near Mason or Bentaleb is absolutely hilarious and putting Ajayi in the conversation with them is insulting. What are we doing here? A 19 year old Bentaleb turned up in the PL and was at home straight away. These takes are appalling honestly. The only academy players we currently have anywhere near being PL level talents, that’s talents, not ready are LWB and Moore. The rest aren’t anywhere near it.
Nobody had a clue about Bentaleb until he was suddenly name in the starting eleven away to Southampton. This is the point people are making. There could be another Bentaleb lurking in the academy. As for Ajayi. He's played one game for us and scored. I don't understand how anyone can say its insulting to include him in a discussion about Bentaleb. Even if you watched every Doncaster game which I doubt, he's never going to look good playing with League 2 cloggers.

Maybe. But even if they give 100%, if they aint good enough they shouldn't be playing. This is elite level sport.

Better to address the underlying reason why established players are not giving 100%..

A good start would be employing a manager they respect
