Dude, you literally have no idea of who this player is so you’ve no idea if £8m is ludicrous or not. At the end of the day, a player is worth what the buying club will pay for him and what the selling club will accept. It’s a negotiation. Presumably you own a house and didn’t offer what the seller wanted with your first bid?
Everyone is looking for the best possible outcome for the cheapest price available. Anyone coming from outside the Prem is, to some degree, a risk given that it emphasizes a different skill set to every other league. A high price tag doesn’t necessarily mitigate that risk — see Soldado, N’Dombele etc. Top tier Prem players want to play for top tier clubs (where they will get paid accordingly and be offered the chances to win trophies accordingly). Like it or not, there are clubs above us in the pecking order. Some were above us when ENIC bought the club and others have overtaken us. The flipside is that we have also overtaken a number of clubs since being acquired.
You'll have to forgive them for trying to find joy somewhere. They're not getting it on the pitch, that's for sure.
