Wharton is a fabulous player on the ball, less so off the ball. Could pair nicely with Palhina in a double pivot.

Under a possession and attacking oriented manager I think he can be brilliant, under Frank?

If this half season is anything to go by, Wharton will spend 90% of his time defending and when he gets the ball he'll have no one to pass forward too.

Wharton is a cheat code in terms of forward passes. He is the best in the League, even better than Rodri at that particular skill, he turns defence into attack in an instant in a way no-one can in the league. If Frank can’t use him due to the movement ahead of him being shit then Frank needs to be sacked and some of our players booted out of the club.

Palace will want £80m plus for him and they have every right to do so, technically he is fantastic. He is the most Spanish English player other than maybe Foden, he won’t be coming to us though. I suspect Liverpool or maybe one of Real/Barca will get him. Or worse Chelsea will get him when they realise Caicedo needs a technical partner and Lavia is always injured.

We have players who can create chances, they're just not allowed to by our dinosaur of a manager and his scaredy cat tactics.

Besides, the best strikers don't need much, they find ways to feed on scraps and still produce solid numbers. Harry Kane did it for years here. Don't tell me someone like Osimhen, Alvarez, Lautaro, Ramos or Rodrygo wouldn't fare better at Spurs than Richy but especially Solanke.

Anyway, in an ideal world we'd have football ops people who know their shit and can address all our issues, instead of always leaving us short in one or several areas. I might be wrong, but having things like a quality goalie, a reliable RCB, a RB who's not a moron, 2 x CMs who can fight & play, a CAM who can handle it physically, a LW who can actually cross & score, and an elite ST...I dunno, feels to me as if that's what would make us competitive at the level the 9th richest club in the world should be.

Harry Kane is one of the very few strikers in the world who is a great creator as well as scorer.

Half your list of forwards are highly dependent on others creating - which is why that's the key to get forwards scoring.

Its highly unlikely that the other half of the list move in January - very few good players do, so day dream as much you like but that's the reason they are not coming to Spurs in January.

There is a reason why no other club has ever in one window brought in a long list of top quality players such as 'quality goalie, a reliable RCB, a RB who's not a moron, 2 x CMs who can fight & play, a CAM who can handle it physically, a LW who can actually cross & score, and an elite ST... So day dream as much as you like but it ain't happening and the only thing to blame is an overactive brain not considering reality.

He’s lazy too. Basic players have to graft like f nowadays and he doesn’t.

Good to see us move on players quickly, hopefully Drag goes too. Let’s start churning
Yeah he's been lazy with us, for sure. But whenever I speak about him with my Forest friends, the majority never complain about his effort & dedication while he was there. Maybe cause he respected Steve Cooper.

Glasner is ways above Frank, Ange & Cooper as a manager. I wouldn't be surprised if that resonated with Brennan, who will also feel like he's got something to prove after the past 6 months and being cut from Spurs. Not saying he's gonna turn into a workhorse, but look at him tracking back and putting tackles in for Palace like he never done here.

By the way, Johnson has fallen out of favour with Frank not because he lacks flair. It's because he lacks physicality.

Frank is going to double down on his version of Bordalasball where games are huge wrestling contests, and only bulky wingers like Kudus could survive in them. Odobert could also be out of the door soon for the same reason.

I'm reasonably confident that not only a potential replacement for Johnson, but also the other signings of ours this January will reflect this.

Does johnson affect our home grown matters.

Not particularly bothered but does that now mean its likely the replacement will be homegrown or do we still have movement for this

Just thinking of top of my head no maddison solanke now potentionaly johnson for champs league squad

I didn't say we needed to sort all of our issues this January, pal. I know how the market works and more importantly, how Spurs operate. Just highlighting the many holes we have (and shouldn't), more than anything.

If I follow your logic, that's like saying let's not sign a great goalie, no point cause we have poor defenders. Or vice versa. Yes, it's obviously better to have a great striker if he's got players behind him to pass him the ball, but...and that's just me...if it's a choice between a great CF with average creators or a limited ST with elite creators, well I'm going with the former. Like I'd pick a great goalie with an okay defense over a top back 4 playing in front of a dumpling.

But here's the thing, and you call it unrealistic all you want...we're friggin Tottenham Hotspur...we shouldn't have to chose between one and the other.

£35M for Johnson looks like an insane deal, and also a shit one. Simply because Johnson is amazing at scoring, but shit at absolutely anything else, on top of the fact we paid around £50M for him (if I'm not mistaken). I hated his ability on the pitch, but I'll always have the fond memory of his goal in Bilbao, and I hope he gets the reception that he deserves when he comes back to The Lane.

Johsnon again OLE OLE!! :johnsonshh::johnsonear:
Kinda sad now that you reminded about that chant for him that won't be sung again, especially his goal won us the EL.

Please, the ex scum Vinai better be getting someone better. If not we are gonna in for some true shit. I rated Johnson quite highly because at the right place and time, he can score goals, and much better at scoring than Kudus...

Glasner is a brilliant manager, I have zero doubt that if Brennan goes there fully fit & focused, the jeffe will get him to score a fair few. He'll play him up top with Mateta in an old-fashioned big man-little man combo act...at least while Sarr is at AFCON. And even when Sarr is back, I'm sure Glasner will be clever enough to realise Brennan gotta stay away from the touchline and as in the box as possible.

Anyway, good luck to the kid and thanks for the goals.

Quality post and I agree entirely with this analysis of Johnson, both as a player but also that he must remain focused.

We are funny as humans because Johnson has never done a Bissouma, Ndombele or various other wasters. No bad press that I can recall, and scored more regularly than nearly all of our other attacking players. And yet he has received pelters from several posters.

Utilise his strengths, as opposed to magnifying his weaknesses is the answer.

Glasner or whoever might just do that.

Slightest hint of change perhaps . IMHO Levy does not take a 15 million haircut, especially this early in the window .
Way too early to feel confident things might be different, but let’s hope it’s a sign of a major strategy change on transfers .

Big shame that there is no noises about Wharton being part of any discussions. Clearly he is off the table for us in January or we'd have heard more. 35m for Brennan is a decent fee but its worth nothing to us as fans unless we see the club invest the money correctly and upgrade on Johnson ASAP.

Its no secret that we were after Semenyo so its nice to see the club are being bold and trying to upgrade fringe players for top players. However, the biggest issue we are going to have is actually being able to sign top players. This transfer window will be interesting. Hopefully the club have a proper list of replacements for Brennan Johnson and that all of them are considered significant upgrades.

Frank isn't on the brink of the sack but it would be very disappointing if the board are not considering all the detail.

If we got Toney on loan it would only mean short-tern backing. It's clear Frank doesn't rate Johnson, so big enough bid and if it suits the player, he is gone. Whether Johnson thinks he might outlast the manager who knows.

Most managers deserve at least 2 or 3 transfer windows, and I get a feeling this might be another endured and not enjoyed managerial tenure.

Frank is doing nothing at present to make me believe we are going to be closer to being competitive. In fact, I have no idea what he is trying to achieve.
The owners are in an awkward position because they've spoken about making money available but do the want to back what they consider to be a lame duck?

Surely they will consider Johnson scored enough last season, he did well at Forest, now Villa and Palace have both shown interest, Kudus isn't really pulling up any trees. If Johnson is sold it's because he's not in Frank's plans and the owners and chiefs aren't thinking beyond Frank, because Glasner has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Frank and Palace are interested in Johnson.
