Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I love football and because Highfield Road was the first football ground I ever went to, to see Keith Burkinshaw's Spurs play Cov, I must confess that I was gutted when they knocked it down and moved to the CBS Arena.

I went to Highfield Road to watch reserve games for years until Cov were relegated in the early 2000's. You'd often get to see top Premier League players for a pittance to get in. This was when I had a Paxton Road season ticket at Spurs and went home and away.

Cov fans have been through a right load of shit for the last 15 - 20 years; at one point having to watch their team at Northampton Town and Birmingham City while the stadium was owned by a private entity.

They probably deserve a spell back in the Prem for that alone.

They do love Fat Frank though.

His combover is getting thinner and thinner as Cov drop points at the moment.

Weird with Lampard's hair loss as a complete side comment. Always appeared to have a thick set for life, same as Roy Keane, who is also thinning.

My view is that if you don't lose your hair by 30,it's not a big deal.

This league is an absolute bloodbath. I mean Liverpool spent 400m and where are they? Miles behind the challengers in 4th. 150m is a drop in the ocean these days.

Everyone has money. Its superior scouting and management that gets results. Thats essentially why we are crap.
100% bang on. Look what £70 million for Sesko gets you. Look what £65 million for Gyokeres gets you.
Our manager is not up to it and our recruitment needs to improve massively. There will be times when you need to go big and spend a fortune like Woolwich done with Rice because that’s a game changer for them.
When I see what we’ve spent on Richy and Brennan is sickening. It’s such poor scouting. I think they don’t go and watch players and just sign players off data and stats which has proved to be fucking stupid.
I watched West Ham last night and the guy Taty who they signed for £25 million offers so much more than what I’ve seen from Sesko and Gyokeres. He works like fuck and held the ball up. There must be so many of those types out there but lazy scouting won’t find them.

Always get vibe with lampard at coventry its all about him and his ego.

Sadly I think football has somehow found a way to rehabilitate Frank the manager.

If he gets Cov up he is guarenteed legend status.

Premier League is their promised land.

They built the new stadium 20 years ago and it was completed after they were relegated.

It's been a disaster since then in all honesty.

Spurs are a much bigger club but it does put our problems into perspective.

I agree with you. Can’t see us splashing out on the financials any way. He’s better than what we currently have but there’s other areas we can also improve. Think it’s just his agent trying to get he may move to England before the World Cup anyway. Suspect he may end up back at somewhere else.
This is probably the reason;

Following Atletico's recent signing of Argentine midfielder Thiago Almada from Brazilian outfit Botafogo, the Spanish giants have now exceeded the threshold of three non-EU players allowed within a La Liga squad. Gallagher could be the casualty, with the rule impacting English players since Brexit. There is believed to be more interest in the Englishman than in Samuel Lino, while Diego Simeone may want to keep Nahuel Molina at the club, according to a report by Cope in Spain.

Brennan Johnson made 107 appearances and scored 27 goals for Tottenham Hotspur, resulting in a goal ratio of approximately 0.25 goals per game in all competitions.

I would say that return for a winger, bearing in mind not all of those were as a starter, is a more than decent return.

Compare that to other wingers, so whilst it was fair to say Johnson needed to add more, it's a one-way view of the player.

To use Johnson as an example of poor scouting, when I look at some of the players we have bought is rubbish.

I do think a lot of players are made worse by the fact we don’t build for a system or a way of playing. Take Woolwich, they have multiple players like Havertz and Ben White who with us would be no better than Danso or Richarlison but they totally fit what Arteta needs.

what is our squad built for?

Possesion football, counter attack football, pressure football? It’s more like a pick and mix. The reason Poch worked is he binned the like of Kaboul and Ade and fixed up the likes of Dembele, Rose and Walker players who had been mostly shit but perfectly fit what he needed.

Club needs to start from first principle.

1 what are we? As we are Spurs it means exciting football is a must. So start with a DoF, scouts and manager that suppports that.

2 ruthlessly sell/move on players that don’t fit the long term type and get in ones that do.

Look at Man United. They buy good players and these players turn to shit. They don’t have a plan, a goal, it’s just buy good players and hope it works. We are the same now sadly.

Newcastle managed to get Tonali, didn't they?

He was born in Lombardi, was an AC Milan fan when he was still in his dad's nutsack, won the Serie A title with them, was their vice-captain...
He had a ban looming and Milan wanted him out because of it.

He fucked up and probably didn't want to take the heat in Milan.

Completely different scenario.

I only used him and Richy because of the money we spent. There’s been so many but there’s no way scouts go and watch them two and come away really impressed by them. If it’s going down the route of stats and data driven as you pointed out with Brennan’s stats then there will be continued mistakes made by recruitment teams.
A great man once told me before that you need to see a player play well, play poorly and play in games that they win and lose in before you can make a decision on them. He said it might take 4 games or it might take 15 games but you’ll see all the attributes they have, weaknesses they have and character traits you need to know if they are what you are looking for.

Stats and data hide so much of that. The eye test is the most important thing in scouting. Of course there is a place for stats and data but watching players closely over longer periods in different scenarios is a must.

Its a consequence of the swinging from one type of manager to another

And for not having a proper DoF

Flavs most recent podcast with the strategy guy nailed it

Our DoFs (if they even are that?) dont have a vision, an overarching strategy, theyre just opportunists

Club needs to start from first principle.

100% agree - I think this HAS to happen

Except we don't even do the buy good players part

I'm going to repeat this because I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it and I think its indicative of how badly run this football club is.

Tell me another supposedly "big" club. That would sell their top scorer from the season before (and make a loss) when they already have most of their forwards and creative players long term injured or suspended?

I'm not saying that BJ was a great player or that he shouldn't have been sold, but he was a player we could use right now as we are short and anybody who knows Spurs just knew that Kudus would get injured the moment we sold him.

But we have to question what the plan is here. Why are we selling players when we are short without getting replacements first?

This is my issue with this club, there is fuck all ambition. They are happy to sacrifice games for £££. We see this all the bloody time.

We our have probably our biggest game of the season at the weekend against Villa, our only chance of winning a trophy and fuck all players.

Plus we are going to be dropping points all over the shop in the PL and you can pretty much kiss goodbye to getting Europe next season.

All the focus is on Frank because people can't see the wood for the trees at this club and I'm just sick to death of it.

Frank is as much a problem as all else youve stated

Hes the front line, in some respects the easiest fix/quick win

That said - fully agreed we need a root and branch change at the club
He has no attacking players mate, and we've just sold one of them without getting a replacement. Its laughable.
I'm not convinced Frank is the answer and didn't even want the guy in the first place but got told he was a tactical genious by the same people that gave him 5 games before wanting him gone.

Its disgusting how badly run we are. Levy might gone but fuck all has changed.
