Transfers The Winter Transfer Thread - 25/26

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Starting to get the feeling that the club has totally written off this season. They've calculated we will have enough to stay up and are planning for next summer where they can evaluate where we are at with the Kulu, Solanke and Madders. The development of the young players. Muani felt like a short term stop gap.

Its a shit state of affairs and proves they have zero ambition but I suspect its whats happening.

Time will tell - but it is starting to look that way

I think theres so much to be sorted out ABOVE Frank that he will be safe for now as a safe pair of hands

I think its criminal to be writing off a season, but its looking like effectively thats whats happening

Agree

It’s clear the identity that Franks looking for and we should back him with signings to achieve that. Lukaku, Nzonzi and Rory Delap - and crouch
When Pochettino was sacked Levy fucked up by signing Mourninho, a manager with a totally different way of playing the game, Espírito Santo they tried to turn into an ''attacking free flowing manager'' Conte steadied the ship and then some, then go polar opposite again with minimum focus on defence with Postecoglou, and now Frank, who is still using the likes of Porro who was purchased for Conte as a RWB. Bentancur is another Conte player who did quite well in a partnership with PEH. In comes Postecoglou who wanted rid of PEH, now with Frank PEH is likely the sort of player he wants.

I don't have the will to go into all this too far, and the tactical side of the game isn't really my thing, but looking back over it all it seems either crazy or self damaging because of incompetence.

Wont lie, never heard of him, no idea what sort of player he is, if hes any good etc...

...but I like the idea of replacing Vicario

To start with, he is a calm goalkeeper. He's not ranting and raving, or smashing up the bike shed if Bergvall leaves it open over night. He saves, he gets back in position and he gets on with it.

He's a very good shot stopper with good reflexes - though does tend to parry or pat it away than getting two hands on the ball, but often this is because of a swerving shot, deflection etc.

Excellent at crosses at 6ft3'.

Decent enough with his feet, not calamitous, as he has a footballers technique, and not a keeper's technique, if you know what i mean.

113 apps since 2016 though, so its been a while since he has been No.1 but none of my Madridista mates complain when he comes in for Courtois.

IMO, an upgrade on Vicario

Thanks! Really appreciated, been a long while since I paid close attention to LaLiga

No particular evidence anyone is, to be honest. They're all either arguing or hiding

Looks that way.

My hope is its all in turmoil at the minute because theyre organising themselves.

Its widely reported Vinai was shocked at Levy going, was expecting to work with him. Levy going certainly came as a surprise - after 24 years of him being overlord of the club, it stands to reason there will be a period of transition while they get people into the right roles etc. For example this guy apparently coming in from City...

So I live in hope that this is all natural teething issues that will shortly resolve. Rather than "this just is what this is" which is terrifying

No one is in charge are they

They've sacked the captain of the ship to appease people who didn't like the condition of the boat

Now the same old ship is just floating around
Our issues are poor recruitment over a number of years , ineffective DOFs , a medical set up not fit for purpose , an underperforming academy , an inability to shift players going back many many years . There are other systemic issues , who do you see as culpable for these clear failings?

I’m genuinely interested in who you think is responsible for the aforementioned issues

Is the academy underperforming? Looks like theres talent there to me, and theyve won things in recent years.

Issue with the academy is more whats happening with the rest of the club - poor squad building and managers with different ethos' and lack of interest in youth (more short termist)

Who is to blame? Levy, simple as that.

Well it hasn’t happened yet so I am not counting my chickens . In the Levy era the only top class player through the academy was Kane. King was trained before ENIC/ Levy , so at time of writing one class player in 25 years .

That is my definition of failing . If we have 3 or 4 come through in the next 5 years Levy should get some credit for that . However we have had many false dawns with our prospects

As per any testing, if you remove a variable and the outcome remains the same, you've not removed the cause.

I think everyone must know that, deep down. It's absurd to think that someone could have 20 different people to do jobs and then do them for them. There's not enough hours in the day.

The issue, for me, has not been cumulative and consistent - we have had good DoFs in the past, with european-style 'head coach' hired to work under them. Then we get in someone who eventually wants to wrestle full control and wants rid of the DoF (Redknapp, Poch etc).
We had a really good academy under Redknapp, then Poch ruined it by doing weird things, and it is recovering now but there's no pathway (it seems) or something else blocking it.
We used to be really good at shifting players until Hitchen came in, and it was bad under the Conte era, but I don't feel like we have necessarily had an issue in moving players on recently though - it's pretty much always the issue of fan perception vs reality, in terms of people magically wanting us to get £20m for players that aren't worth £10m, or wanting the club to get rid of players (e.g. Ben, or Richarlison) that the club don't actually seem to want to sell, and seeing that being "bad at selling" rather than the reality of it.
We got £15m back for Emerson Royal, £20m for Skipp etc - which seems great now

At the moment it feels like 'The Greatest Hits' of all our problems coming together.

Fair enough.

Id say its produced a good number of professional footballers, players at Prem and Champ level - and more than paid for itself

So in the sense of being a productive academy - it is.

Of course, you are right in that so few have made it to the team.

And absolutely youre right on the lag in how long before changes made will pay off. We have invested more in recent years, so it can still pay off in the coming seasons...

City second and already lining up two top quality signings.

Meanwhile an injury ravaged Spurs

I mean, there's no other kind of Spurs, so that doesn't make this TW different to any other for us really...

100% bang on. Look what £70 million for Sesko gets you. Look what £65 million for Gyokeres gets you.
Our manager is not up to it and our recruitment needs to improve massively. There will be times when you need to go big and spend a fortune like Woolwich done with Rice because that’s a game changer for them.
When I see what we’ve spent on Richy and Brennan is sickening. It’s such poor scouting. I think they don’t go and watch players and just sign players off data and stats which has proved to be fucking stupid.
I watched West Ham last night and the guy Taty who they signed for £25 million offers so much more than what I’ve seen from Sesko and Gyokeres. He works like fuck and held the ball up. There must be so many of those types out there but lazy scouting won’t find them.
I was downright angry when we signed both. Still, one down. One to go.
