Definite upgrade on what we have at this given time.
Yes he can indeed carry the ball and cover large areas very well,but he is by far more educated and well schooled in the areas that should be.
He will def be a more rounded player with his experience in Spain .
He offers himself between the lines v well which we really need, also his pressing and interceptions in final third right up there.
Pass completion stats v good too.
Also good at timing late runs into the box and gets in amongst the goals too.
As with all England players on fringe of WC squad he will be wanting to show he still got something to offer.
To me i prefer the eye test which to me he passes ,and his stats more than confirm that to label him just a ball carrier is plain ignorant.

Gallagher is not coming to Spurs, I just can't see it, got more chance of getting Bowen from West ham!

I don’t mind Gallagher. Hes a hard worker who will put the effort in. I wouldn’t be against signing him, however it should be in place of someone like Bentancur.
Bergvall and Gray are similar profiles, spending £40m odd on Gallagher isn’t a necessity. Much more pressing issue in the squad.
I think the Gallagher hates Spurs thing is probably a bit overblown. I reckon he was so dead against it before cos he would've been coming directly from Chelsea and would've been labelled a Judas by their fans.
Now he's spent a couple of years away it's more akin to us signing Parker or Gallas. I reckon if he chooses Villa over us it would be mainly for footballing reasons rather than cos he hates Tottenham.
Reckon most players don't really care if they money's right and the location is decent, etc.

If we use the Brennan Johnson money and get Gallagher for a similiar price it's not bad business for this window.
The way I see it is he'll act as a partner for Palhinha for this 2nd half of the season (which suits Franks football) and then he acts as a long term replacement for Bentancur after the summer, and we bring in a real progressive passer to play alongside him.
He's a better tackler and better ball carrier then Bentancur based on the last few seasons, and is still only 25 & home grown. It's a signing that makes sense in the long term IF we bring in the right profile to play alongside him.

Regardless of league position, if we can't sell ourselves as a more attractive long term proposition than Aston Villa we may as well burn the place down now.
