Trouble is there's no legs/pace in our deeper midfielders only burgvall, he tries but he's limited... Gallagher will fill a void hopefully very wellBissouma - out
Connor - in
Will walk right into the team, and perfect replacement for the injured Bentencur. Similar profile to Bergvall, and can hopefully act as a mentor and allow them to rotate seamlessly. He will take Johnsons squad spot in the champs league.
Can't argue with that. Smart signing.
Now just need the coach to play them to their strengths, and stop lumping long balls!
Spurs fans are some of the most deluded in world football after United fans. He's played for two very successful teams with winning of trophies and cups we can only dream of.
He wants to leave with one eye on a WC place, and the only thing that's missing is the due diligence done by fans supporting a team 14th in the PL and with record home losses.
He chose us over Villa a team that has torn Spurs a new ass twice this season.
Go figure.
Gotta take into account the wages as well as just the fee, though. Atletico put him on 150k and Chelsea apparently offered him a contract extension of around the same (but only after they dicked him around for months).35m is about the same price as Atletico paid for him about 18 months ago - and Chelsea hawked him round multiple clubs to sell him.
So the price seems to be where most DoF's in europe rated him for his qualities/experience which must mean some people are missing something that the professionals spotted to get to that price rather than the higher price some seem to think he's worth.
Just to add and ask, just who do we have currently who can do any of this?

Its a great signing for us right now.
If he was good enough for Atletico, going out on a limb to say, maybe he wouldn't have been made available, and played more.- English
- 25 years old
- Experience in Prem and Champions league
- NEVER missed a game through injury
- Smart person
If he's good enough to captain Chelsea, and good enough for Athletico - he's good enough for Spurs.
Why in gods name would you put this in writing?
The issue is that it's not that he's a bad player. He's a good player, but number 1, wrong profile of what we need. We dont need another runner like Bents, Sarr and Berg.

Not many clubs in Europe at all are gonna pay those types of wages, especially outside of the PL, so the pool of clubs that can actually afford him massively shrinks. Especially when most top PL clubs have pretty established top quality central midfield options.
I reckon if his wage demands were lower - say 50-100k p/w there would be far more clubs interested and the transfer fee would be higher. It also explains why Atletico are willing to get him off their books for a lower price as he's like their 4th top wage earner and he's not a consistent starter.
As a comparison, a big reason we were so happy to shell out so much on Archie Gray and why Chelsea have spent so much on youngsters is cos you can get away with paying them them much lower wages.

Secondly, we pretty much don't have a manager. He's finished and it's a matter of time. We should not be buying opportunistic punts, just because, especially when we're going to have a new manager who might not want him and we've added to the deadwood.
Thirdly, He's going to be a top earner, and I'm sure promised the world. He's better than what we have, but if this is the type of statement signing we're getting then we're not going forward (which is very evident).
In a vacuum, it's fine. But this just reeks of them scrambling, seen he was available and bought him. Makes much more sense for Villa than us, but more sense for him to come here because he wants game time before the world cup. It's a total non-mover of the needle.
It's a lovely notion but I'm absolutely expecting Bentancur to still be here in 2 seasons time, finding it very difficult to get excited for this signing as I feel it's an incredibly short-term response to injuries that will soon be assuaged by the return of Sarr from AFCON and Bergvall from injury anyway, both of whom do much the same thing on the pitch as Gallagher. I won't deny he is probably a distinct upgrade on our next best player (Sarr or Bergvall IMO) in that role, but frankly I'm more depressed than anything by this transfer as you can definitely write off the possibility of us buying a passing midfielder until we've trimmed the midfield in the summer now.We do need a different profile of CM
BUT
With Bentancur (and most likely Bergvall) injured for a while, we do also need another player of this profile and we needed to upgrade Bentancur in the long term anyway.
If you see Gallagher as an opportunity to upgrade Bentancur now instead of the summer, he's a good signing.
Yeah I think it's defo a good thing - Levy woulda probably turned his nose up at this type of deal cos of the wages. He would've been all over the loan with an option, no doubt, then tried to wrangle a discount.I thought everyone wanted us to pay the going rate for these players and raise our wage budget so we actually get them?
