My opinion (the one I have come to) is that Bassey is no less capable than Van De Ven.

I think he will soon be courted by bigger teams than Fulham, with due respect to them, and in some regards would serve us better than Van Der Ven, who relies on his pace far too much and is a poor passer of the ball.

Whether the issue is that he doesn't play alongside someone who tells him where to play or whatever, but for me Van De Ven has a long way to go before he is anywhere as good as posters on here believe.

And most definitely not world class
I do wonder what player you've been watching for the last two seasons. Even trying to be a bit more objective (obviously failing) , he is, by some incredible distance, the best player at the club. Forget world class and all that jazz, at our club there's VDV and then about 5 rungs below that is the next best player (whether you think it's Maddison, Romero or our PR temp). Call me crazy, but I don't thing that Bassey is the person to come in and be 5 rungs above everyone else. It's not a ladder rung we should be looking to replace unless we have zero choice over the matter

Seriously?

Cause he is a EPL level midielder that can actually hold on to a ball and who can do creative passing.
You know...the thing we have not done this season at all?

Maybe for that reason?

I mean - look- I do not think that Paqueta would be an ideal signing. Or best signing of decade or even year.
But purely in terms of skillset, he fits in very well to what we need. He has played significant part (not majority though) of his games for West Ham as CM. He could play next to Palhinha to provide quick passing and interchanges.

Gallagher is OK passer, but I see him as more of a dynamo. Pressing, running, carrying. But not a passing maestro.
Paqueta for me would fit into that category.

I would absolutely prefer us to sign for example Tonali or Gravenberch (and big number of other such players) ahead of him. But that is hardly viable, is it? I in fact do like all of our youngish midfielders- Bergvall, Sarr and Gray. But to me, none of them currently offer ability to consistently make line-breaking passes or high volume of vertical passing towards opposition goal. Paqueta could do that.

Fuck off. How about that?

Unreal if true.

I mean look at where West Ham are, and ask what Paqueta is offering that makes anyone see that this bloke could be worth pursuing.

Hopefully it's nothing but if this is the best we can do it's a shocking indictment.

And we beed a striker infinitely more than another midfielder or whatever Paqueta might be.

West Ham effect. They had Tevez and Mascherano wondering why they were playing for a club named after a piece of pork in a relegation battle.

City saw enough to want to pay £80m for him until the whole betting thing came up

Paqueta is a hard no; not because he's not talented, he is, but because I haven't ever seen him dictate a match the way someone like Tonali has for Newcastle (who would be a far better but not happening option).

Exactly this.

Paqueta might be talented but it's never in view.

It reality would be incredible if we sought his signature at all, let alone with our greater priorities.

Worse is maybe that any interest might be fuelled by Frank.

Just on the balance of what position Paqueta plays - we dont need him
