He came to England a few years too early. He was written off by the old guard press and the horrible bastards in the Chelsea dressing room as too young, not able to take on the job.. And at that point he didn't have the "gravitas" to debunk it.

If he stayed at Porto a few more years, I feel that the way he'd be spoken about as a coach in this country would be different. Not that he'd be Mourinho or anything. But he'd have had been better equipped to have had a better go of it than he did.
Despite always impressing people with his tactical acumen, he had a lot of different managerial jobs in his career across leagues, cultures, continents, and the common thread was always him rapidly alienating everybody at his club.

A very difficult person to deal with, by all accounts.

Ange completed the J-League too. :chicco:

(More seriously though.... My point was I don't honestly believe we ever truly saw Angeball as fully advertised; just some hodge-podge of a high line with inverted fullbacks whilst the wing &MF play didn't resemble his Celtic........ )
Makes you wonder if some of that was down to the calibre of the assistant coaches at Celtic compared to the team assembled here.

Post on a Brentford forum

"I’m just hoping that Levy listens to the ignorant majority of Spurs fans who have made it clear that they see Frank as a massive downgrade and not nearly up to the task of managing their massive club."
I can understand why they're not too happy with us at the moment. For my part, I'm perfectly happy to have Frank as our manager and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with our team. Kieran McKenna should be a great fit for them as well.

I wish them all the best for the new season.

People bang on about Levy sacking too many coaches but they all, ultimately, deserved it.
The question isn't why he keeps sacking them, it's why he keeps employing duds.
I don't expect even good coaches to last 5 years these days. But why is he so happy hiring no hopers like Santini, like Ramos, like AVB, like Nono and yes, even some aussie wally who's never managed in a grown up league.

Which is why the comparisons to clubs like Liverpool are redundant. For example, of course they didn't sack Klopp at any point - he didn't warrant it. They sacked Brendan's great character, and Hodgson.
I think it's easier to judge a bad manager retrospectively. Santini was definitely odd. AVB I can understand - he'd had a mercurial stint at Porto that prompted Chelsea to pay, what - £13m or something. Lot of money back then. Can be forgiven for ignoring that stint because Chelsea didn't back him and didn't let him even have a full season.

Nuno was weird but that was 100% Paratici, rather than Levy. Even from his own mouth, Paulo Fonseca (link) had basically got the job, and then Paratici came in an veto'd it and was putting Gattuso in until the fans went mental.

I know they didn't work out, but ultimately Ramos and Postecoglou managed cup wins so it's difficult to really label them as bad ideas, but I also believe there's a point of entropy with a manager that gets reached and Ramos should have really gone at the end of the season with 2 wins in 10. Shades of Amorim.

It does.

Would Nuno have got us to a CL final?

Would Jose have helped develop Bale and given us entertaining football like Redknapp did?

Would Conte have ripped his rulebook up in order to win us a cup like Ange did this season?

Nope x 3.

Even Mason did a better job than Jose at developing Bale when he was dreaming about golf clubs

Only just realised he's President of FC Porto now
A truly outstanding salesman

Amazingly yes.

A lot of people are annoyed Ange is gone and will probably bring up the fact that we sacked a winner everytime we lose a game forgetting what this season has been like under him.
You mean winning a trophy? Squad togetherness? Also highly unlikely as most people "annoyed Ange is gone" are actual supporters with feelings for the club who just want what's best to succeed.

Wouldn't be surprised to see the same boo boys who cried about Poch, Conte and now Ange be the same for whoever the next manager is.

The exact fans this broken and corrupt ownership / board absolutely prey on. Completely oblivious to the role they play in the perpetual turmoil of this club.

Nobody with sense cried when Poch was booted.
