You’re clearly a bit stupid aren’t you.

They can’t sign an adult contract until they are 16!!

Find me any information about him playing for spurs between 14 and 16. I will wait…..

Jesus. Why do you have to jump on insults over something so irrelevant.

What do you think he did for two years? Quit the school of excellence just for the sake of it?

Find me any information about him leaving spurs before he was 16. It was the late 80s FFS - I'm not going to jump down to the microfiche at leytonstone library just because someone with a will ferrel avatar is being weird on the internet

According to his Wikipedia page he played for Brimsdown Rovers.

'' During a two-year period in which Beckham played for Brimsdown Rovers' youth team, he was named Under-15 Player of the Year in 1990.''

If you look on the Wikipedia page you'll also see he was listed at tottenham until 1991.

School of Excellence players commonly played for local teams too, as football didn't have the scale back then to have full-time academies. Really depended on how committed they were to football.

It's been an age since I read ledley's book because it was really dull, but I'm sure he did similar to keep out of trouble

Ledley played for SENRAB didn't he? Same as John Terry, and a few others.

Yes, that's the one. There are a handful of little clubs like that who seem to exist purely as enclaves for the up and coming talent. They join clubs exclusively at 16 on schoolboy terms, but often represent multiple teams at the younger ages.

Respect the old skool tech reference. :mourthumb:

I didn't see such a statement on there. I saw the part where he signed a youth training scheme at United in 1991 but not a part with the date he left Tottenham's school of excellence. The gap between being 14 years old when he signed the schoolboy forms with United and 1991 when he signed a YTS with them, seems to have been filled by playing for Brimsdown. Rovers' youth team.

I meant if you want to live by Wikipedia, it is listed on the right as 1991

To be honest, I'm amazed just how much energy as gone on into one person passionately insisting that Beckham didn't dawdle around on the tottenham youth books until 1991.

Unless someone wants to try and deny that he was the product of a our youth team, it's a totally pointless use of bandwidth and such a segue from the original point that we've had a lot more world class talent in our academies that the ones that played for us. For a time we could have mentioned Reece Oxford but he's come to nothing despite all the early noise that was there

Ah I see, sorry I hadn't looked at that part. I don't live by Wikipedia, it can be a useful resourse that's all. I hadn't realised his time with Brimsdown Rovers was a loan. So which players have been in the academy who have been world class that didn't play for the team apart from David Beckham?

I dont think it was a loan, because he was at our school of excellence which in those days wouldn't have taken up much of his time. As per the other comment, it was quite normal for kids to play for a local team whilst being 'on the books' at a big club's "academy".

As per the previous comment, Jamie Redknapp - injuries aside - would have made a world of difference to us if we could have kept him into the 90s, instead of the crocked version we had at the end of his career.

Again, I think Crouch showed his quality at international level and people would scoff at the idea, but I think he was world class.

I suppose you'll have to drop in on the gooners during the season for their assessment of Madueke to see if he counts

I hope you don't mind me saying that even if you can successfully argue they were world class players, it isn't a lot of world class talent, which was your claim in a previous post. Unless you think 3/4 players in about 35 years is a lot.

I really hope our latest manager shows the same footballing tactics he deployed at Brentford..... lets hope everyone at our fantastic club gets behind him .... and in about ... say.... 4 years time he leaves with a Prem title under his belt.....C O Y S

It's mainly about fitness during preseason but with a new manager its more than that.

I get the feeling franks going to walk away from this game with alot of thinking to do. Don't think he was happy with what he saw today tbh
