We aren’t in the Europa League this season so our chances of winning a trophy are remote. We will have to beat teams that are better than us whereas in the EL all our opponents were worse than us.

Right now we have roughly the 8th best squad. Finishing higher than that would be an overachievement unless we add major quality. The gap between our squad and the CL clubs is mortifying.
Simple reality.

Anyone who doesn't understand this is trying their hardest not to.

This season is about instilling/engraining actual tactics and building a new game into the players that can compensate for Baldcunt's flagrant negligence.

Frank isn't working miracles with this average squad.

But he'll wring every last drop out of what we do have and we'll just have to see where that goes.

CL/Prem/FA/CC/Injuries/Suspensions... think about all that and our squad.

Extending Davies and signing Tel just isn't serious in any way.

Those aren't football decisions.

Frank saying he'd take 7th, when asked directly (obviously his own personal aspirations aim higher), is perfectly reasonable, in context, for a first season with a new bunch of players to drill and infuse with new methodology.

The way we're moving - the usual - do we finish above:

Liverpool
City
Scum
Chelsea
Newcastle
Manure
(Villa?)

?

They're all buying first team players and are still ACTIVE and mobile in the market.

Kudus doesn't bring up our slack.

People need to screw their heads on.

i think he makes a big improvement, hes the only one we have with raw pace and the ability to dribble and drive at fullbacks, and actually take them on and create more space for himself.

we are still around 3 players away from being a serious competitor.

right now it looks something like this

-----------------vic--------------------
porro----romero--VDV------udogie
--------berg-----biss/bent-----------
kudus-------maddison--------??
--------------solanke/richy------------

midfield is weak no matter what way you cut it, LW is weak no matter who you put, and then you have the ST position that will lastly need to be upgraded, but the MF and LW should be first as they are weaker.

maybe kulu could play deeper, a little like mcginn does.

One Kudus does not bring our standard up enough to topple one of those clubs I listed - who are seriously strengthening - from finishing above us.

And doesn't provide enough quality in depth to support all the competitions I noted (plus injuries/suspensions).

But I agree that 3 PROPER players* on top of that puts us in a much better position, though Frank still needs leeway to get tactics drilled and instilled.

*
Non-starter for us unless Baldcunt is hit with a lightning bolt of integrity and buys 3 more proper players.

I fear that Frank is mainly focusing on making us hard to beat. I think he figured under Ange we scored a lot but let stupid goals in. Maybe he is only just realising now we have almost zero creativity in the team when Maddison is injured.

Training seems focused on blocking shots and defending set pieces. Frank has been a slow starter in previous jobs, and coupled with the incredible lack of investment in first team improvements, I think the fans will be about as patient as they were with Nuno if we do not get off to a good start.

I expect his first choice team to be something like this, which is probably good for 8th'ish.

Vicario
Porro Romero VdV Davies
Bentancur Sarr
Kudus Maddison Tel
Solanke

At the moment, with this squad, I think anywhere between 5-9th would be a good finish.

I've become more bullish on Frank the more i've learned about him.

Genuinely the first manager in a long time that I think could develop the young talent we have here.

It'll be a bumpy road but if Levy saw it out with Ange, I hoping he's giving Frank an even longer leash.

You have to build a strong foundation. We were way too easy to play against with Ange. Poch did the same thing when he first took over. It's the correct thing to do

Sad thing is we have an opportunity to make this season about more than that if we signed three elite players. We have signed one. Need two more.

I still think Frank will surprise some on this board. I think we will be top 5 and do well in the cups.

I'd like to see a 3-5-2

Vicario
Romero Danso VdV
Porro Bentancur Bergvall Maddison Udogie
Kudus Solanke

better still if we get Palhinha or whatever his name is instead of Bent/Berg. Starts to look decent. Esp when Kulu is back.

I can see us in the mix for 4th ... behind Liverpool, City, and Woolwich

In the mix with Chelsea and probably Man U . I think Newcastle and Villa will drop back a bit.

2 or 3 new starters and I've have happily pledged that bet. We're not there yet though....

And now our unavailable list is starting to grow too. :pochunimpressed:

Why are people bringing up 17th like it’s relevant?

17th was clearly an aberration and we would improve on that woth Ange at the helm. We finished 5th the season before.

Clearly top half is the expectation with this squad. I think a European finish with clear signs of player development is the aim.

Frank is joking the whole way through that conversation about 66/1 and finishing 7th. I wonder how some of you cope in the real world woth such poor people skills.
