Yep. Given the fuss made about climbing from 8th to 5th then climbing 10 places in a CL season has to be seen as a truimph.
He really doesn’t, he needs to get this squad back to the level it should have been at last year, and then try and get it to push on.
More than anything he needs backing, which he hasn’t had yet. He has to try and get a mid table squad, to perform to a level where it can get a European place whilst managing it across numerous competitions, not just trying in one and making us a laughing stock in the others.
This squad was capable of winning the Europa league and finishing at least mid table last season. This coming season he has the harder competition in Europe, and will make a go of all of it. People need to get off his back already.
It’s a 7th level type squad and all the teams around us have good managers. The league has moved on since top 4 used to be easier, there are 7-8 good teams apart from us.
5-8th is our new 4th place.

There’s nothing stopping this squad finishing 5th as a baseline
There will be United fans looking at the excellent signings of Chuna and Mbeumo thinking the exact same. Villa are a well set team now, they could improve but it’s a good manager and good team and don’t bet on Newcastle suddenly dropping. It will not be easy next season. 5th would be excellent given the current state of things.
Utd and Brighton with no Europe is a huge bonus in terms of league form, they could both easily finish above us. A weak squad and CL where you cant rotate i think 5th this season is fanciful.

We shouldn’t be happy but if we come 7th or 8th that shouldn’t be sackable, that is par for where we are.

Without a trophy it should be cause for serious unrest in the fanbase and lucky to escape a sacking.
Even the chaos of the end of Conte with that old broken squad we finished 8th.
