You've created quite the web of intrigue
Always said Vic is good "enough" we don't need a world class goal keeper to win the league or the cup, yes it helps but we really need a strong forwards and midfielders and that should be priority.
When was the last time a team won the league without a world class goalkeeper? Most important position on the pitch imo.

Wow, I didn't know Kasper Schmeichel was world class..... was Jose Hart world class? Seriously?
I would argue De Gea is not world class either. Plus, there are also cups and we won a Europa with Vic.
Leicester’s year was a freak event when other top 4 teams were in transition.
And to be fair Hart and De Gea were great keepers when they won their titles. Pundits were all shocked when Pep replaced Hart for a keeper good with his feet. Then Hart declined dramatically.
Having a great keeper can earn a team 3 or 4 points more easily and in a closely contested title race that is an enormous advantage
Well, they were very good but not world class. Hart falling off after Pep shows he wasn't that great of a keeper either.
They all had great teams except for that Leicester which was a wonder year. Vic is good enough.
To be fair to Hart; he was a beast for Man City in the Mancini/Pellegrini days.

Agree, he was excellent. I heard that his decline had a lot to do with his eyesight deterioration, where he needed prism in prescription glasses.

Clough made Shilton his first signing back in Div 1, conceded 18 goals in 37 games and won the title. One of their wins was at Spurs when he played out of his skin and Daines then conceded 3 which everyone knew would all have been saved by Shilton
Less well known, at Stoke a couple of seasons earlier. They bought Shilton (world record fee for keeper) and led the table after that. If they hadn't had a load of broken legs they prob wouldve won it too. Top with 3 games to go.
When Gomes got his act together he looked fantastic for us, but then the season he started conceding poor long shots you could see the confidence just drain out of the defence. Why do we bother? They can shoot from 30 yards and its likely to go through his legs. When Vic lost his mojo with that City goal in the FA cup the whole ground would start to have kittens when we conceded a corner
