I'm not making any big judgements on Frank right now - bloke needs time and it was inevitable we'd have rocky patches and issues given our injuries and the limitations of the squad. Fine to ride it out for now unless we go on some Ange-esque losing steak.

However, I do think whether he succeeds at Spurs will come down to one simple factor: does he keep trying to make Spurs into Brentford 2.0 or is he able to elevate his style to meet the expectations of a big club like Spurs? I'm starting to get a strong sense that he views the game differently to the average Spurs fan: where he sees us being hard to beat and effectively playing the percentages, a lot of the fans see turgid, long-ball football. And if he doesn't get wins playing ugly, the fans will turn quickly like they did with Jose and Conte. No doubt a lot of those saying they loved the long throws a week ago are bitching about them today. And those voices will get louder if we have a bad run of results.

At the moment we're basically playing like a more expensively assembled Brentford and that's probably good for about 60 pts a season - maybe 70 at a push. But if long term he isn't able to effectively adapt and evolve into something more progressive, I don't think he'll last here for longer than a couple of seasons max. There's only so long the fans will put up with us ignoring our number 10 and building up by lumping it down the channels.

People seem to be forgetting that Solanke was pretty ordinary himself last season. He is not a goal scoring maestro that will start banging them in.
My hope isn't so much that Solanke starts banging in tons of goals, its more that he'll actually be able to do the essential number 9 stuff that neither Tel or Rich can manage atm: hold the ball up, win headers, link-up with his teammates and bring them into the game, make decent runs, etc.

Atm it sometimes feels a bit like we're playing with 10 men, especially when Rich is playing (and not scoring worldies).

If Frank can't get anything out of Solanke or RKM that's when I'll start getting a bit worried.

I'm just so depressed with the squad we have assembled

I am so bored watching most of these players and I really have very little hope for most of them while knowing full well that they'll still be stinking out the joint in 3 years time as we won't do what's needed to shift them

Frank really does have a thankless task

I actually think the squad isn't too bad at all. We're (v.nearly) sorted at CB and full-back, got some talented young midfielders (Bergvall could be a worldie), Kudus looks the business and some of our young forwards could develop into really decent players if we give them time rather than expecting the finished article right away.

For me the key issue isn't the squad as a whole, it's the fact we're massively missing a few key profiles in there - namely a LW that can actually score goals and impact the game, a passing midfielder and a top class number 9. It's also unfortunate that all 3 of our extremely promising young mids in Sarr, Bergvall and Gray all seem to look best playing as 8s. Probably gonna need to sell one of them to balance the squad long term.

There's some deadwood we badly need to sell like Johnson, Rich, Dragusin and I think Tel (and maybe Odobert) needs a loan, but compared to previous years that's not much at all. And while a lot of people hate Vicario I don't think he's a disaster and is fine in the short term.

If Xavi comes good I think we're only really 3 or 4 top quality signings away from having a decent well-rounded squad. Just need to be really smart with who we bring in and ruthless with outgoings.

In the Jose/Nuno/Conte years almost the entire squad was way worse than ours is now except for Kane and Son.

Sensible but overly positive

We are shit

He went in with his eyes wide open!

I don't think the squad is far off at all.

We need an elite level player in 2, max 3 positions and we are in very good shape.

The way we play being boring is because we have another new manager who has a very different approach from the last and is building a way of playing from scratch. The things that make football fun to watch are attacking combinations between players or indivoduals given the space to express themselves and do the things normal people can't do. Both of those need chemistry and connections between different positions on the pitch to know where each other will be.

Right now, with our front line options being completely toothless, I'd play with a false 9 (s), in a 3-7!!

Romero. Danso. VDV. and pack the mid-field with....
Porro. Kudus. Pally. Bergvall. Sarr. Xavi. Udogie.

Giving licence to Bergvall, Sarr, Kudus, Xavi to rotate, poach in the 9 role.

Whilst I typically vehemently argue against the cliche "you have to give a manager time" this time, I'll be patient a while longer.
Things are better than they were.
Not perfect, but better.

Can't believe I'm seeing people calling for Frank's head, or saying he only has a few more games. This is the problem with the club. A tough patch and it's begging for change... It's so cringe.

And to see people asking for Poch back. Seriously?

Just have some patience and belief. Part of the problem is the home games. The crowd are flat as anything, nothing for the players to feed off. It's like a day out at the park.

The players that are paid millions could always try to give the crowd reason to cheer.

A great post.

We are making progress. It will take another season before we are solid top 4

As long as Frank makes material progress this season, then he deserves another season and to be backed in the windows. So far he is making progress
I agree.

We clearly lack a top striker (I like Solanke and I hope he comes back firing) and a LW. We were so lucky to have Kane and Son at the same time. We need patience and to allow a manager to get their vision installed.

It's paid off with Legohead.

What I'm currently seeing is an attempt to steady a leaky ship.
Villa barely had a shot, they scored 1 freak goal and the other I missed tbh as my link on holiday kept freezing.
As long as we continue to solidify, I can live with a bit of dreary forward play....as long as it does improve.

People have massively romanticised Poch, his first season was dull as ditchwater for the most part. Even the early stages of season 2 were dull. That "coincided" with him finally throwing in the towel on Soldado and Adebeyor IIRC, and chucking Harry Kane in.

There was evidence of what he was trying to do. If I seen anything beyond, whatever it is we're supposed to be doing, I'd be more inclined to give him time. But this is completely crap.

No there wasnt after 8 games.

You, once again, are talking about you own PERSONAL opinion and dressing it up as FACT as you do constantly on here.

We were boo'd off the pitch after losing to Stoke - 11 games in - after losing 4 out of 5 home games

Tottenham offered nothing in response, and the half-time whistle prompted boos from the home crowd as the players left the field.

They barely improved after the break but Pochettino's side, who scored twice in the second half to beat Aston Villa last week, pulled a goal back when Chadli thumped in a volley from a tight angle as the game entered the closing stages.

I think you need to, for once, just admit that you are wrong and leave it mate.
