My mate from Amsterdam told me the other day that VdV is your typical Dutch footballer (or Dutch lad in general)...thinks he's God's gift to mankind, has a proper boner about himself, looks down on other people. Basically an obnoxious, self-absorbed twat. And was like that already when playing for a shite team in Holland. My mate says he hates listening to his interviews when on NT duty, that he's proper cringe...even more so than Van Dijk.

That's why despite having produced outrageously good footballers over the past so many decades, the Netherlands never won zilch. Cause the egos of guys like Van Persie, Robben and now Xavi & Micky are always getting in the way. Same thing England had with Ferdinand, Terry, Gerrard, Beckham, Rooney...

Is your Dutch mate in the room with you now?

With your PSG mate?

Born winners are cunts.....it is what it is.

He's not pleased at us conceding 5 goals.

He's pleased with the intention, attitude and application of our game as a whole.

Not the lapses that led to the goals.

Those can be fixed.

The key thing is his faith in the player's ability to dig down and compete.

That's what he was looking for tonight.

Against the best team in the world in their home ground.
I normally don't agree with you, but in this case I do.

I've said it on here a few times, but people need to decide whether they want to take as shorter route to sustained success as possible (akin to a Chelsea model) or are willing to ride through the pain for the next 5-8 years sticking by the Manager whose going through a lot of turbulence in the early stages.

If we don't have the patience for it, then just keep hiring and firing until we luck out.
Tbh the current Chelsea model is a long term approach. They basically scrapped an entire team and started from scratch with children then had 2-3 years of relative mediocrity: 12th, 6th and 4th is terrible when you consider they spent over a billion quid - that's essentially been them 'riding through the pain'.

I actually think what we've tried to do over the past couple of years is actually pretty similar to Chelsea, but much less cohesive and on a lower budget.

The Chelsea model works cos they went for the very best young talents and played the numbers game - if you spend a billion quid on the best young talent in the world, by the law of averages you'll hit a few superstars. And it looks like they've done that with Estevao, Caiceido and Palmer.

We've also gone for loads of kids and young talent on long contracts but not the very best. Vuskovic and maybe Bergvall look like the ones with the highest ceilings, but I don't think Chelsea would've gone for Tel, Odobert, Gray, Sarr and certainly not Johnson. Some of them might come good (or very good) but none of them look like stars compared with Chelsea's kids.

As usual under Levy, the core idea isn't usually that bad but we've cheaped out a bit and are getting worse results. The same goes for most of our marquee signings - they're the cheaper alternatives to the players the very top teams would buy.

As for the 5-8 years thing - that only happens if you have relative success or improvement within the first 2-3 years anyway. Arteta would've never lasted beyond 3 if he hadn't made a huge leap forward, and Marezca is only gonna stay at Chelsea if he keeps improving them.

Unless you're a Moyes at Everton type where expectations are low you basically need to be improving and getting pretty close to winning stuff within about 3 years to have any chance of lasting.

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, speaking to TNT Sports: "I am very pleased with the performance.
We just conceded five fucking goals you moron... Jesus Christ... someone please take the microphone away from him...
I haven't seen the interview but you're on the wind up surely.

No way would he say he's very pleased after shipping 5 goals, just a few days after shipping 4

....I'm gonna watch it it now.....I call bullshit

Oh

He did .:memeokay:

not sure what Frank can do about Romero and sarr brain farts…..

Sure we conceded 5 against the best team in the world, but it was a much better performance than what was dished out this season so far.

Bergvall needs to be the main man it’s clear, grey was great and deserves more minutes.

I’d consider having grey next to bent and bring in Xavi with bergvall

Exactly. It's fucking pathetic.
I think that's why Frank will never be THE guy long term.

I can imagine a world where, given time and support, he'll regularly get us into Europe and beat some of the big teams each year - generally make us a functional team that are a bastard to play against. Probably peak around 4th/5th and get to the odd semi-final here or there.

But he doesn't strike me as a winner. Seems too content with mediocrity and doesn't have that killer instinct almost all the top managers have.

Still, they need to hit the ground running.

Done a lot of talking.
Of course. If they buy RCB from Scarborough called Bob, I ain't gonna be best pleased.

There is no point sacking Levy if the goal is to improve things, then go out and by chaff.

Hopefully they will be doing some homework, and have targets lined up as soon as the window opens.

Then not haggle over 50p and a packet of crisps.

I've never seen a manager of any team that just shipped five goals open his interview with I am very pleased with the performance. Even if he just said pleased, it would be a little bit better but he went with very pleased... honestly is that our ceiling. Getting dicked by the elite clubs.

I would have given him this game if he hadn't just tried to gaslight the fanbase once again. Just say it was better but still short of the what we are striving to be.
Two was Romero’s fault, you can’t really blame the manager for that. We played well despite the loss. Away from home against the best team in Europe and tested them twice this season. I hate losing but there were positives.
