Kane had a handful of goals towards the end of the Sherwood era but had shown nothing to say he could be relied on week-in, week outWTF how are you even getting agrees? This was full Kyle Walker, Vertonghen era. Kane was scoring in PL games and Adabayor had a goal every 2 games season.
For the additional here: who exactly are the 'certainties' in this squad??
You forget that he got us 5th in his first season (without Kane). There shouldn't be an argument about whether Ange or Frank is best.
It should be whether either of them are any good.
Ange wasn't. Won a 2nd tier comp in truly bizarre circumstances doing nothing in his own playbook.
It's now just a question of whether Frank is just as bad.

Adebayor wasn’t reliable long-term and Pochettino gave up on him pretty quickly.
Walker had a bad 13/14 and spent the majority of Poch’s first season out injured.
Vertonghen - Massive questions over his attitude/commitment when Poch arrived.
Danny Rose - One of Pochettino’s very first acts was to approve of him getting a 5 year deal; and the fanbase reacted very negatively in the main.
Under normal circumstances, I would’ve have picked Kulusevski, Maddison and the 2 centre backs - However this brings me back to my original point, I don’t believe that Frank has the proper long term answers to our issues.
Frank is what he is - an 11th-14th place manager, the job is too big for him, and it’s fine to accept this. He’s a good midtable coach, a bad one for clubs with aspirations beyond that.
Poch showed signs even before he ran with Kane full time. No, it was the exact same thing back on here at this point with Poch tbh. The main difference is he had better players, with Kane having emerged for a start:
That was overwhelmingly to do with Sherwood. Sherwood never rated him and continued afterwards to leap at any opportunity to slate him. That first season under Poch was more uneven than most remember, and was even more about pushing out the figures that Pochettino didn't value that were a negative or disruptive influence on the squad. Pochettino recognized his quality from the jump.Vertonghen - Massive questions over his attitude/commitment when Poch arrived.
These were things that were said in the moment; in August 2014 Adebayor and Soldado were still seen as the top 2 strikers at the club. The clamour for Kane only came in October. So you've retrospectively applied appraisals of players that were wrong, and are using those false prophecies to try and claim the squad wasn't very good... didn't turn out to be true, did it?
Meanwhile, you've suggested 2 of the players that haven't been available at all for Frank and "the 2 centre backs", one of which has been a liability.
Why aren't you applying those arguments equally?
All of these things, if you put any effort in, can be said about the current squad too
- "nothing to say he could be relied on week-in, week out"
- "had a bad (previous season) and spent the majority of (Manager's) first season out injured."
- "Massive questions over his attitude/commitment"
- "wasn’t reliable long-term and (Manager) gave up on him pretty quickly."
'Tim Sherwood opened his mouth again, which is always a bad sign. Tottenham's loquacious former manager had some rather not-nice things to say about Jan Vertonghen during Spurs' loss to Chelsea on Wednesday in his role as television pundit, and Tottenham's current manager Mauricio Pochettino called him out on it.That was overwhelmingly to do with Sherwood. Sherwood never rated him and continued afterwards to leap at any opportunity to slate him. That first season under Poch was more uneven than most remember, and was even more about pushing out the figures that Pochettino didn't value that were a negative or disruptive influence on the squad. Pochettino recognized his quality from the jump.
Indeed. Sherwood crucified Jan after we got battered at Chelsea, and a lot of our fans lapped it up.That was overwhelmingly to do with Sherwood. Sherwood never rated him and continued afterwards to leap at any opportunity to slate him. That first season under Poch was more uneven than most remember, and was even more about pushing out the figures that Pochettino didn't value that were a negative or disruptive influence on the squad. AsArcspacE implies, what if he finds Poch's tactics too similar to AVBs, or if Poch decides he was to play Kane & Soldado up front (and they start banging them in) - would you be okay with him standing up to him in front of the whole team?
No he wasn't - he was bang average under AVB. So Kane played a handful of games tripping over himself in the EL under Redknapp - still no-one knew he was the real deal - only once Poch gave him a real go. Mikey has played more. Is he gonna' make it to those levels? You cannot know yet - that's the point. Archie won Leeds young player of the Season so he's obviously going to make it? I'll put my hands up and say i don't know they will - but they've got the potential and chances under the right manager (not Frank).....So at this stage in Poch's first season, why were you arguing that he didn't have decent players?
So you're saying Frank only has up until now to make the available players into amazing ones, but Poch was allowed a season or two...? You're talking bollocks and it's not consistent.
- Dembele was already good under AVB
- Kane played a lot more than 3 games under Redknapp, never mind Tim. Go back to the Kane thread and see that everyone had figured out by then he was the real deal (Match - Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa)
- Rose was young player of the year on loan at Sunderland, Walker was the young player of the year and in the PFA team of the year already by that point
Unless you're someone's multi, you might want to kindly fuck off from telling us all what we were discussing on here in 2014, with your 6 month old account, thanks
I got this horrid feeling we ain't see the last of him. The stadium is his mausoleum. ENIC own 86.58% of the club with 13.42% owned by minority shareholders. Of the 86.58%, Levy owns 29.88% so approximately 25.87% of the club is still owned by Levy. It is not beyond the realms of possibility for Levy to partner with someone like Amanda Staveley and the Qatari's to regain ownership of the club from the Lewis Trust. Much like a bad movie where you think the villain has been killed off... but at the start of sequel, he somehow survived being shot 100 times, put through a industrial cement mixer and fed to pigs.I understand the lack of optimism. Spurs have taught us to expect this worst. But Levy is gone and this feels different.
According to my calculation the present points per match is 1.29, over the entire 38 matches it would give the team 49 points.
However the team has earned 8 points from the last 10 matches, which means it's on 0.8 points per match over that period, Which mean at that rate the team over the next 21 matches would earn 16.8 points which I'll round up to 17 points.
22 + 17 = 39 so i points ahead of Postecoglou on present form.
He is well respected in the game... but interestingly he's gone to a club owned by the Woolwich owners. I think he will be back in the PL before too long.I'm sure Matt Wells is a nice guy and he has a great Spurs heritage but he's been a coach the last 2.5 seasons and its been fucking dreadful. I'm sure its not all his fault and he has had to work with the pitiful dog eared cards he was dealt with (both players and managers) but i'm not sorry to see anyone leave at this point.
