Off the cuff is fine. It’s how we played under Harry a lot. First half players held their positions so there was no movement when we had the ball, soon as the shackles got lifted Odobert Tel and Xavi started interchanging and we looked good.

Either we play off the cuff like Redknapp and give our attackers freedom or we put our players in an attacking structure. What Frank does is similar to Jose and Nuno which is to keep the players in a defensive structure when they have the ball thus we have no creativity. When we have the ball our players mark space/playes instead of look for free space.

That is coached. The reason I believe is if you are in a defensive structure when you have the ball you can’t get caught in transition when you lose the ball so it’s all about not conceding from losing the ball. Problem is it means you have little creativity.

That’s the best explanation I’ve seen tonight

But why did it take so long for him to tell them all to “Run about a bit”.

I honestly have no clue if he should stay or go at this point. We have spells where we look really good, one of Vicario/Romero/Porro make a defensive error, we concede, and then everyone stops trying. Or else we start the match without any energy where no one looks like they want to be out there, and we only start playing once we go behind.

I think we all can agree the squad is midtable at best. There's no available manager who's going to come in and get us playing any noticeably better, especially with all the injuries. I think I'm at the point where I'd give Frank the rest of the season and reasses in the summer. But whether it's him or some other poor fool, there must be a mass clean out of the squad this summer.
Agree with your post.

But VdV, and Spence, and today Tel for the second goal, keep losing possesion in dangerous areas leading to goals. VdV is terrible in playing out from the back and he is more often than the others the cause for our turning possesion over to the opposite team.

First half was abysmal. Got what we deserved sitting back.

Game over.

2nd half showed fight. But then he killed all momentum with the subs.

This guy’s specialty is self sabotage

He just put Odobert close to Xavi in the middle and right wing was Porro's only. And suddenly we were able to make some quick short passes in the middle so Villa had to sit back a little.

Ofc after subs we went back to usual shit when Simons didnt have anyone to play short.
I didn't want you to tell me how we played differently in the 2nd half (I have my own eyes). I said I'd love to know what was said at HT (and specifically by who!).

I mean, we don’t know he can’t coach it but it did highlight exactly how bad the plan before that was for this squad.

Out of nowhere, Tel, Odobert, Xavi, even Muani looked on it. Gray and Palinha overrunning their midfield…

We were still very lucky not to concede a 3rd on the break though. Porro off the line etc

We know he hasn't coached it

We know he has never set them out to do it

Either he's given up his principles or given up control...

I never liked this thing in the summer of 2023, that "we don't want a manager who acts like he's doing the club a favour. We want someone who is lucky to be here." Honestly, that idea felt so small time. You want a manager that's above where you are at that moment. That's maybe too good for where you are at the minute. That's what we had with Conte, and if we went all in, maybe he would've brought us up to the level that he's belonged at for the last 16 years of his career. We wasted that opportunity, because a manager of that calibre isn't coming at this moment.. But look at this lot who we played tonight. Villa spent their first few years back in the Premier League spunking money away in windows and flattering to decieve. Wasting time with Gerrard.. Then they go and spend the money to get a manager miles above their station.. And look how he's dragged them up to his level and made them relevant again. They didn't waste time with this chump change, small time "oooh let's get people who feel lucky to be here" bullshit.

Totally. We've tried to be clever and hipster with our last 2 appointments and it proves yet again we're not Brighton. We dont have the smarts. Like our signings we try and act clever but dont have a clue.
