You think Palinha doesn’t hide when it comes to receiving passes under pressure? Hes the most diabolical hide and seek player we have in possession. You just like that he tackles people a lot and scored some freak goals.
You're actually trying to argue that Palhinha hides? You actually have zero shame.

I posted stats about him and your fanboy crush Gray yesterday. Dissect those stats and then get back to me.

He hides when it’s time to receive a pass between the lines. Maybe Frank tells him to but he hides.

Does love a tackle tho
Palhinha excelled at many things stats wise so trying to label him as just a "tackler" is disingenuous.

For this I have to remind you of Grays 'contribution' so far this season when compared to other like for like midfielders.

1% percentile in expected assists
1% percentile in shot creating actions
2% percentile in tackles
2% percentile in progressive passes
5% percentile in shots
10% percentile in assists
17% percentile in non penalty goals
28% percentile in touches attacking pen area
29% percentile in aerials won
31% percentile in progressive carries
35% percentile in successful take ons

You have lost the right to cirque any of our players and their apparent "hiding" when you defend absolute nothingness and blatant "hiding" like this.

I’ve lost the right?

Didn’t know you were the one handing out the rights? 🤣🤣🤣

All because I’m not as in love with Palinha’s tackles as you are.

And this obsession with dragging a 19 year old Gray into every conversation. It’s not that deep

Just to warn you all,

Frank is shunting Simon’s to LW and playing Gallagher in the 10

The irony of you continuously using the word "obsession" when it was you that randomly brought up Palhinha first is not lost on me.

It's not good being a hypocrite Richard Arlison Richard Arlison

Surrendering the midfield, despite putting everybody behind the ball, due to a highly negative setup where the defensive line stays on the lower side while midfielders get outnumbered regularly.

Where have we seen this before?

Parking the bus is a rather overused notion; but this combination of a mid to low block and putting virtually zero pressure on the ball while still leaving gaps everywhere is just that.

Safe to say that it backfired badly in both cases.

If that was the case, how did he get that second half out of them after his team-talk at halftime?

I'm not against criticism, but don't be disingenuous.
I’d say he didn’t more the players may have decided to give it a go and run around a bit more. Frank is not that much of tactical genius that he can give them one set of instructions for first half and another for 2nd. If you are saying he can then he should be sacked for the first half instructions alone. Home game in the cup and to set the team up that way is not on.

He has been ceding possession heavily recently, starting with the game where he allowed Palace 62 percent: A team that average just 43.

Brentford a few days later had 56 despite averaging only 46, and Sunderland a few days after that also had 51 despite averaging 42. That's certainly a brave strategy for a Spurs manager to resort to for consecutive games, but I'm not going to get into that.

My question is rather this: What's the point of ceding possession, defending this deep and with this many men if you're going to allow the opponent to force the ball right into the heart of your defense at will anyway?

This is not a one-off incident: We had a similar embarrassing display against Woolwich too remember, where they carved us wide open despite Frank using an unprecedented 5-2-3 solely to shut up shop.

Not good at all.
Villa had 60% I think which in a home fa cup game knowing it’s our best chance of getting silverware is sackable as well. Villa often play on the counter as well.

I mean, Brentford in the EPL under him:
  • Never ranked higher than 15th in number of short passes [5-15 yards] attempted
  • Never ranked higher than 17th in short pass success rate
  • Never ranked lower than 9th in number of long passes [30+ yards] attempted, and ranked inside top 3 in that category in 2 of the 4 seasons.
Unless they brought him here for him to implement a similar style of play, this alone should've planted seeds of doubt in the minds of those who identified him as a prime target.

There's more: Those same Brentford teams consistently ranked inside top 5 in number of aerial duels, and led the entire league in 22/23.

This can be construed as a variable inversely correlated with possession-oriented play, as the ball must be spending a lot of time in the air for a team to get involved in so many of these. To better illustrate the point, I might add that City have been ranking dead last in this for the last 6.5 seasons now.

I've yet to find any evidence that would give one some realistic hope that he could go beyond trying to optimize this football as best he can.If the board don't think it would be worth it, I for the record also don't, they shouldn't drag this out beyond this season at the latest.

But Arteta struggled too !! by itself doesn't exemplify sound decision making process.
The eye test is enough to tell what his main style of play is.

Klinsmann?? F*** no. We’d be relegation contenders. It’s a poorly constructed squad..that’s the bottom line. Like that Independent article asked at the end, how many players of ours would CL teams take if they had the option? Apart from VDV and maybe Romero ..not many. Certainly not any of the current available forwards.
Think we need someone right now who can actually organise a team and get more out of the players. A bit like emery.

I mean, this is the point I was making preseason. To me, I didn't think it made sense to sack Ange just for 10th with Frank. If you want to sack Ange after 10 games fine, but you may as well bring in an FA Cup winning Glasner, or a clubman like Ledley King, or put Levy in charge of the team.

It literally made zero sense to be happy with a mid-table manager that had zero real European experience and didn't deserve to be managing in the Super Cup or the Champions League.

17th and a trophy will always mean more.
Exactly right.

And that is where the strategic direction/plan and messaging from the club doesn't marry up.

If you say the club needs a rebuild, than go for a rebuild!
Don't do a half-arse 18 month "Rebuild" and then shitcan it for not being Top 4 and competing on all fronts. (fans are partly to blame for wanting results now) but Progress is not always linear, especially when your'e bringing in a young new guard and replacing the old guard.

If you say you want to compete on "All Fronts" then don't go and sack your Trophy winning manager for another one that has zero experience in actually competing on All Fronts. Go and get a Conte or a Klopp and back them to the hilt with experienced players that they want! Don't cheap out.

The club at the moment is stuck in the middle. Whats the old saying “He who hunts two hares catches none.” ?

Set out a strategy, get everyone aligned and on board (especially fans) and stick with it properly. That's what good Organisations do. Only Pivot when it's absolutely neccessary
