Its time to replace the trust with a think tank 🤔

Anyone is entitled to feel whatever way they want about De Zerbi but if the trust posted ‘on behalf of the fans’ without even informing their own members then that is bang out of order

Dear Mr M Jol,

We are writing to you following our statement on the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi, which we received a number of reactions, both in support and in opposition.

We’d like to clarify our governance, as some responses requested further detail on our approach, particularly regarding our democratic processes and consultation with members. We consider transparency to be absolutely key in our dealings with our members.

We are the only democratic body representing Spurs fans and the only one accountable to members who actively shape our work. The Board is democratically elected by members at an annual AGM, with all full members invited to vote for those standing for election and to nominate themselves and others to stand. Alongside this process, we publish an annual report that outlines the Trust’s impact, agenda and vision.

Once board members are democratically elected, they act on behalf of THST and members, taking into account the Trust’s existing policies, principles, member and supporter survey consultations, the Five Principles of Ownership adopted and driven by the Trust membership (and supported by the Club), as well as the views of members as expressed through direct contact.

As democratically elected board members, the positions, lobbying and campaigns the Trust takes and leads are guided by this direction from members, and we are held accountable by the democratic process outlined above. The Board is also responsible for reviewing the sentiment and feedback from its work, and this situation will be no different at the next board meeting.

With regard to our statement on Roberto De Zerbi’s appointment, prior to the announcement, we were contacted by a number of members and supporters who asked us to raise their concerns with the Club. We took this, along with our reflections on how the Club's values and our Five Principles of Ownership were being upheld by the Club, into our decision-making. The Board determined they were not.

Our aim was to challenge the Club and the newly appointed manager in a way that would clarify their position. We felt, based on the feedback we were receiving, that this was vital to ensure the fan base would feel heard, which, in turn, would enable us to all focus on supporting the team and the new manager in the final games of the season. We hope the Club will do so quickly.

We appreciate all the support and constructive criticism we have received in this instance and will consider and reflect on the opinions of our members and other Spurs fans at our next meeting. This will include assessing mechanisms to take the pulse of our members' views at speed. More information to follow.

We remain committed to being an independent, democratic body open to all Tottenham Hotspur supporters. We would encourage all of our members to get involved whenever they can and welcome ongoing dialogue on this and other issues impacting the Club.

Our sole focus now is on supporting the team in the games we have left and playing our part in preventing relegation.

Absolute drivel. If what they were saying in the email is true, why did they say in their original statement: "our preference would have been for a short-term appointment of an individual or individuals who understand the Club and can lead the players in the seven battles to come." Whose fucking preferences is this? (edit: Would they have kicked up a fuss about Hoddle if he were the manager and his comments on disabled people...highly doubt it)

And clearly someone at the Trust who spoke to the BBC said they "cannot support the appointment".

What a load of rubbish

So if I set up a fan group right now, with a current voting membership of one (me) then I can say I'm also an "independent, democratic body open to all Tottenham Hotspur supporters"

3 people who have the same world view as us sent an email. We decided that was enough to assume our own personal opinions are enough to act like we’re representing the majority view. We don’t really care if it isn’t because we feel morally superior to anyone who doesn’t share our views.

We will just gaslight you about improving some shite like “Democratic Process” in the future, but really we still feel like our opinion is morally superior, so we’ll just do what we want and you’ll pay your membership fee for it.

Thank you for your consideration

So they are literally saying

Tough,
You elected us, we will do what we want, whenever we want, however we want even if it goes against our mandate and/or members wishes.
And if you don’t like it vote us off next time.

Personally I think club and FSA should be approached and ask to get THST de-recognised, assuming they won’t change their stance.
Maybe see if kat and/or Martin will take on an alternative Supporters Trust in short term.

And I am speaking as someone who worked a lot with THST before Darren Alexander’s passing, including working on setting up a splinter club with him/them at times of Stratford. (Which very much was a real plan, not just us trying to stop West Ham getting it, or making them pay more)

The clue is in the "Once Board members are democratically elected they act on behalf of THST and it's members" suggesting they believe there are two entities within rather than THST and it's membership being one and the same.

This philosophy is later contradicted by "their actions are guided by the direction of members"....clearly not?

My feeling is they have jumped on the noise created by other platforms and used the opportunity to further personal aims/beliefs without consultation with any of the people they were elected to represent.
