Alright... so this is it with Werner experiment for sure?

I mean, I do not hate him. He seem likable lad and he has some moments in him. Lot of pace to burn. But that is not good enough on the level we should be aiming.

Signing him permanently is basically accepting and locking us down to certain mediocrity in this position. We tried out and he did not do bad. But he did not do good either. So we should look for someone else who at least COULD be better.

Sure, the fee itself would not be massive (what was it? 15 mEUR?) but catch is in his salary demands. As far as I've understood he is on like 180 th EUR per week. If we sign him on permanent basis for example 3 years, it would mean we ship out 15 mil + take an obligation to pay him 3x7,8 mil EUR. So total cost of his services would be 38,4 million EUR?!? For an attacker who can't score, this is way-way too much.

At the end of contract he'd be 31 and sitting on various benches for years, so his resell value would be roughly 0. Why flush 40 million EUR down the toilet like this?
Tried. Did not work. Let's try again with someone else who might.

Still don't think he'd be a bad LW back up option for the price quoted. Especially if we sell Solomon and Gil.

But we absolutely need better starting there.

I'd rather take the punt on Solomon making the grade tbh...... He's at the very least good enough to cause problems in the EL & domestic cups........ The frustrations with Werner (i.e. his finishing) will remain whatever competition he's playing in.

Ultimately though, rather than buy a new back-up I think we really need to start the transition to the post-Son era now.... Even if 'by name' Son still remains honorary #1 for another year. Get the new guy in now and split the game-time.

Make no mistake; if we're gonna have a good league campaign AND win the EL we'll still need a strong first 18/19 players (including reliable goal-scorers on our bench).

your posts have been very good lately, i approve.

Nice lad. I like him.

We need better though.
Yes we do for the first choice 11, but we can't just buy 11 Messi's and hope no one gets injured or suspended; we need back up in just about every position and Werner would be a reasonable option, provided his salary isn't astronomical. Same goes for a few of the other "must get rid and get someone better" members of the current squad. Not all of them obviously.

You know how everyone laughed at Woolwich for buying German Chelsea reject Havertz... And it proved to be wrong...

Well I HONESTLY thought it would be the same with Werner .... How WRONG I was!

we just can't catch a break off those cunts!
