Ex-Spurs Player Toby Alderweireld

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Everyone knows how hot Poch is on players'fitness. Had one 90 min. run out after being injured for 3 months. Crunch games against arse and Juve - need fully fit players.

Playing into media hands if read more into it than that.

If he wants to go, then sod him, just ensure that the buyers cough up a silly amount of money for him. Don't care who the player is - if they are not committed to playing for us and giving their all, I'd rather they left.
Then when the next one wants out? Sorry, but what kind of statement does this make to Harry, Dele and the rest. If we keep caving in and taking the money when a player wants out we'll probably always end up one step short or second best.
Once again we just had the biggest attendance in Europe this weekend. I reckon we've reached the stage where we should now be capable of keeping our best players. IF toby wants out, we need to address the reasons why. Not just roll over and take the highest bid.

I get what you are saying and in some ways I agree. But at the same time I don't want us to become a club that is held hostage by the players. Yes we need to create an environment where players want to stay at the club longterm. But I do not believe that the one sollution to that is to cough up more money every time a player threatens to leave.

We can’t. In many ways that’s what Woolwich have done and where are they now? A wage bill over 50% higher than ours. But looking a shadow of the team, although their manager must take some of the blame.

City can pay more than us, United can pay more than us. If it’s purely money we can’t win.

Better to foster a proper team ethic built on a loyalty to the club - however the flip side is that it’s harder to keep the best, older experienced players as they will be offered (sometimes a lot) more elsewhere.
We do the same thing to sign these players ourselves in the first place. There’s always a bigger predator out there.

And I expect one day this type of conversation will be about Harry Kane.

Can you think of an example where any club has told any player he’s staying and it’s worked out for everyone? I’m struggling to come up with any.

Woolwich kept Sánchez.
Liverpool kept Coutinho.

Both clubs rewarded with mediocre six months and the player left anyway.

Logically it makes sense for him to have played against Newport as it shouldn't/wasn't as high tempo as a Premiership game, if he hadn't enjoyed it or something went wrong he could have been subbed without impacting tactics later on.

He needs time once played to rest, stretch and assess his injury. There is no point rushing him back as he is so close. It's funny, he runs like he is always one step away from a hammy.

I believe our priority this season is the FA cup and CL spot. The guys will go to Juve and give it a go but little will be expected of them. We have a real chance in the FA cup and the top four gets tighter every week. For me I think he will start against Palace we have to remain unbeaten on the run in, it's the only way to get a spot

You don't get match fit for Woolwich or Juventus by training and having a run out against Newport.

These games are too important to risk a 90% fit player. Our style is based on the unit not the individual.

As a bonus yes it does say no one player is bigger than the team.
