Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Yeah, this is the thing with best verses legend, as I've said twice now. Jimmy was a great but not a legend, regardless of the heart strings attached. Just as with Lineker after him, both were great goal scorers and both were cunts both during and after their careers. Sorry for the wording but it's apt, like with Sol. The irony being, you saying disrespectful lol.
the fact that you lump Jimmy Greaves & Lineker with someone who is universally hated by Spurs supporters says a lot to me. I'm not a fan of Lineker but I would not use that word about him - egotistical wally maybe.
I still think the 'c' word should be reserved for very 'special' people and I have only ever used it for three individuals - bet you can guess who one of them is.

Fairly self explanatory.

I’m putting no conditions on this. It could be players you’ve experienced in your lifetime, or it could be a mix of recent and historical names. No first elevens, just a top 10 list.

For context, I started supporting Spurs in 1990, so inevitably I’m going to lean towards players I watched. Yet I also watched historical videos and have read about our past in detail, because supporting Spurs is about the past, the present, and the future.

So in no particular order (though feel free to have a 1 to 10):

Greaves
Mackay
Blanchflower
Hoddle
Jennings
Gazza
Modric
King
Bale
Kane

Special mention to Klinsmann, Ginola, Mabbutt, Sheringham, Roberts, Archibald, and Berbatov. Maybe Defoe.

How many of these players have you actually seen play? You’re becoming very fucking boring Richie boy. And yep. My “fighting dug” is fine and still friendly. And I’ve not had her beaten or abused as was the way in your family.

To be fair, I made a point of saying that they don’t need to be players you’ve seen play.

I never saw Greaves or Hoddle play, but I know enough to be sure that they are club legends.

From what I’ve seen of both (on video, obviously), I’m confident that they would both still be absolutely incredible in the modern era. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a player come close to Greaves’ ability to ghost into positions and finish so cleanly.

I know what you mean, but technically Bale was with us longer than Gazza, Lineker, and Waddle.

I just think it’s an interesting discussion point. I loved Keane, but him moving to Liverpool removed any hope of legendary status as far as I’m concerned, even if he did come crawling back.

Modric was the one selection of mine that I had a problem with. He was an incredible player, but his Chelsea quotes showed his true character. I don’t think he ever considered us more than a stepping stone, but he was still an incredible player for us.
Exactly, being an incredible player is one thing, being a Club Legend is another.
I know the game has changed significantly and one-club players are a rarity in these mercenary days, that's why I would challenge a lot of the more recent names. IMO, I would include Hoddle, Daveed, Ledley and Mabbsey from the modern era.

Perryman was Mr Tottenham, he may not have been as elegant as Hoddle, but he is our record appearance holder, club captain for multiple trophies. When the likes of Hoddle, Ardiles, Roberts and Hazard, all still call him ‘Skip’ you know the amount of respect for him amongst his peers makes him a legendary Spurs player.
Don’t disagree with any of that. Unsurprisingly, we have more than ten legends.

Worst owner? The Scholar regime nearly ended us a club.

As others have written big difference between great players and legends. A great player was Klinsman who could not wait to clear off after one season and then went full on sentimental about what the club meant to him, absolute mercenary, great player but no time for the bloke.

Legends for me

Blanchflower
Mackay
Greaves
Mabbutt
Perryman
Chivers
Gilzean
King
Hoddle

But the list is endless, ardiles, Anderton, Les and Clive Allen, john white, villa, brown, miller, Roberts, mullery, peters......
Good to see Graham Roberts getting at least a passing mention, he'd be in top 10 for me, at least in guys I've seen playing. Honourable mention for Mr Sedgely if for nothing else being caught bang on camera during 91 semi final questioning Alan Smith's recreational use of his right hand....

Bizarrely I think of van der Vaart as more of a legend than Modric or Bale
I don't think that's bizarre, legend status isn't measurable in tangible figures, as much as the hipsters would love to show you a heat-map or ball retention stats to tell you otherwise.

VDV loved us and hated the other lot, and it wasn't just for brownie points, when he scored against them he did what all of us would have done, head straight for their fans and give them some.

When I got married in 2012 I was "allowed" to chose the table names...

8 tables plus top (I know you don't normally name top but I had to given the opportunity). Rule was no current players (so no Ledley for example). This was my selection:

Top table: Nicholson
Blanchflower
Greaves
Mackay
Perryman
Hoddle
Lineker
Mabbutt
Sheringham

Well a legend status is almost given in hindsight, especially on a second hand account so:
Greaves
Alf Ramsey
Blanchflower
Cliff Jones
Mackay
Jennings
Hoddle
Perryman
Mabbutt
King
I dont know if this has been or will be rectified or not but those two weren't in our Hall of Fame when I did the Stadium Tour in November 2016.

To add insult to injury a talentless hoofer like Steffan Freund is there, rubbing shoulders with the others in your list for no apparent reason.

A couple of us on the tour pointed this out, the guide sighed and gave us a "what can you do" gesture. He said that was a regular moan.

I rated/rate Roberts.He was a club legend IMHO
Not quite as much so as some you mentioned, but still a legend. I stuck to players I saw play as well, so Norman and Mackay wouldn't have been on my list :)
I agree... but in a list of 10 legends, there are certainly 4 or 5 better in his position.

Likewise the GK position... Hugo is undoubtedly up there... but try getting him in ahead of Jennings, Bill Brown or Ted Ditchburn and there might be a debate to he had!
