You sure? I've never seen the actual calculation of the metric.

If it doesn't account for the individual player then it's not analytics it's a very basic metric for starting a bit of chatter.

It definitely does not account for individuals.

It's a basic analytic used to show a general trend of chance creation and how those chances generally translate to goals in your 'average' match with 'average' players. It shows who has been creating more clear-cut chances, usually.

It's far from perfect.

Same reason why if it's the same chance but different players could be different outcome.

Striker has been put through on goal how can the xg be the same if it's Harry Kane with the chance or Gary Doherty.
