Match Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester City, 20:15 GMT, Wednesday 30th October. League Cup Round of 16

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Has to be the strongest team possible. If you are going to rest players do it against Villa at the weekend.

Learn the lessons from Fulham last year, this cup is MASSIVE for our fans and getting a monkey off our collective backs.

Play our strongest 11, hope Pepe sacks it off and we should win with a decent atmosphere and a prevailing win, IF and this is the big IF the players fancy turning up.

Seeing as they seem to be able to pick and choose when they turn in a shift that's will be the deciding factor.

But Ange has to at least lay the table in the right way.

Lose this with a weakened team and for me he has to go
He won't be sacked for losing to City.
But it'll be another straw on the camel's back.

True, but which game would you rather win? A league match against Palace which might make the difference between finishing 4th or 5th, 6th or 7th or whatever or a statement cup win that puts us on the path to glory?

COYS
I’d rather us beat Palace honestly- at least then we’d be capable of beating who we at least ought to. For me the league is of great importance- and I believe Ange believes as much too as he did very little rotating in the side he set out against them yesterday.

People watching us lose to Palace and then hoping we can reasonably beat City in a cup match? I’d save that as more of a possible sweetener than something I’d be actively expecting.

Beating Palace though is something we should be DOING- not just trying to do.

It was a ham fisted attempt to win on a new manager bounce. The team had almost stopped playing for Jose, they'd just been knocked out by Zagreb.
I was only half serious because I'm not that much of a conspiracy theorist. And as for new manager bounces... that new manager was Ryan Mason. If we'd got someone new in quickly (as in a permanent appointment) I'd have understood that theory. Frankly, a silly move by Levy. He should have at least been given a cup final to do what it is he does: win a frigging trophy.

Starting Werner at this point is like eating mouldy food simply because you paid for it.

It has to be done right now though with our lack of options.

Besides- shouldn’t we make Levy watch and rub his face in it a little bit?

If we go on to lose this match and then lose our next Prem match because our players were all gassed from three starts in a row I will be utterly pissed off at Ange.

Sorry, but I don't believe that for one second. My view (if I recall events correctly) is that Jose wanted to prioritise the final and wanted to rest players in the league game beforehand which Levy was against, given the chances of a CL spot (and of course the money) . I reckon they had a big disagreement and Levy sacked him which, in turn, probably saved him a few quid in manager bonus payments.

I mean, sometimes I get the feeling he was sacked before the final because Levy would have found it impossible to sack Jose if he'd won that cup.
Well he sacked OTHER serial winner George Graham (albeit Gooner) the week before THAT OTHER semi final Vs. Woolwich to put Hoddle in charge.... So we all know how THAT worked out!

I think he THINKS he's doing the best thing each time...
But it never quite works out.

He's like the Frank Spencer of Football Chairmen!

Fuck it.... We're just serial cunts, aren't we?

No wonder everyone else hates us and takes great pleasure in laughing at us!

I'd take José with his team taking a crack at a cup final over anyone you could bring in on a weeks' notice.

And although we all know he wasn't the right man going forward, José was sacked with the team in 7th and in a cup final which is probably equal to anything we can expect this year.

The Super League was also announced that week, and what factor might that have been in Levy's decision to go to Ryan Mason for a cup final and a run at CL places?

Rubbish

We were shit and he lost the dressing room. Our only chance in the final was a Hail Mary and it nearly worked

Would have lost 3 or 4 under that dour fool

Why? We won’t win the PL and it’s hugely unlikely we will find form and challenge for 4th. So why is Villa more important?
I get where you're coming from, but it's not just about Top 4. We're falling away from the Top 6 and as a bare minimum we need to be competing in Europe every season. That's where a club of this size should be.

While winning the Europa\FA\EFL are higher priorities (for me personally anyway) we still need to qualify for Europe one way or another. We've already lost too many league games at this stage of the season to let games like Villa be free hits. I don't believe in free hits, but if I did I'd say we've used them up already.

The players and Ange have put themselves in this situation and we've been unlucky with the cup draw but it is what it is.

Agree...

Exhibit A:
Poch inexplicably naming Michel Vorm in the FA Cup Semi Final vs. Utd...

I flew all the way over from Austria for that!

Walking up Wembley Way when it was announced... Had a feeling it wasn't gonna be our day!

Why do we do it to ourselves...?
Sacking Serial Winner Jose the WEEK of a Cup Final...?

It's almost... ALMOST like we don't WANT to win sometimes!! :ange-hmm: :sonhmm: :kanehand: :levywtf::pochohshit::pochshock2::mourhandlaugh::avbhumph::harrysmile::sherwoodwtf:
😲😱😳🙀😮
I still find it so funny people think jose was gonna beat pep in that final

We went to the a month earlier and got our cheeks slapped 4-0

This ‘Jose would def have won’ is a bit much

Why do we need to be in Europa next season? Honestly let’s just win a pot. Not saying Villa is a free hit but we can play a strong side in both games and flip next week

I was at GG's last home NLD; we beat the scum 2-1 and the atmosphere was electric. Goons must have thought it was April Fools when Levy booted him out the week before the most important game for years.
