Didn’t we have the same problem over last few years? Even under conte v low block trans we were shite. Only v high press teams did we occasionally win the ball back and transition. We’ve done better this season by getting the turnover and playing balls down the wings with early cross. Can’t recall many goals from this slow side ways passing build up style.

I like Kulusevski, I think Werner and Johnson are ok and may improve, I know Richarlison has scored a rake of goals recently as well but none of these players are working up top in this system long term. Son was crap today too.

Romero too. That there tells us what went wrong today. Keeper and 2 centre backs were our best players. VDV is the one who actually passes the ball with a bit of purpose to a wide player. Definitely the most disappointed I’ve been this season but I don’t get too high or too low with winning and losing. You can’t be great every week the same as we can’t be poor every week. What today does show is we still have a long way to get to the level of the 3 challengers. I thought we were closer but until we get front players that cause teams problems for large parts of games then we’ll always come up short.
Watching city earlier and they just keep asking questions. They play a similar type of game to us but it’s so much quicker,aggressive and constant and the opposition can’t get settled for any period. That’s where we are trying to get to but with our front 3 today and Johnson and Werner we will never get close to that.

Okay, but they haven't yet. and while we've not been great this is our first league defeat since Brighton in December. It's annoying waiting two weeks to put today right, but might just serve as that "mini preseason" as some have mentioned to get the likes of Bissouma and Maddison back to speed and hopefully Udogie and Porro back in for Palace.
