SEBASTIEN BASSONG - Wolves vs West Brom - 12/02/12
2 Appearances · 1 Subbed Off · 0 Goals · 0 Assists ·
Sebastien Bassong played 61 minutes, in a left central defence position, before coming off injured with what seemed as a hamstring injury as Wolves were embarrassed 5-1 by West Brom.

Guardian rating: 5.4 (avg. 5.7) (13 votes)
Goal.com rating: 4.5 - The defender was lucky to see Hennessey produce an outstanding save after he gave the ball away just outside his own box, allowing Odemwingie to set-up Scharner. Still needs time to gel with his new team-mates. Replaced by Berra.

Judging from some Wolves forum comments, it seems there was a mixture of positive and negative reports:
Bassong off that is not good at all. Played better than what people are saying on this thread.
As soon as he went off we were struggling and it seemed to change the game.
I'd have said hamstring as well, but he seemed to be able to walk off without too much trouble? Didn't even seem to be limping.
Tight hamstring. Good job we've got two weeks without a game.
Looked like he went off as a precaution rather than anything too bad - fingers crossed anyway.
I thought he was rubbish and looked unfit. He got caught in possession a couple of times and seemed joined to the hip with Wardy.
I don't think it was Bassong that was rubbish. More like the total lack of options he had when in possession. Plus Blake was moaning at him for not hoofing it long in the first half. I felt sorry for Bassong, you can see he wanted to pass the ball forward but we were so weak in midfield he just had no-one to pass to.
Bassong was $$$$ing $$$$ today.
while he might have been "$$$$" it was only 1-1 when he went off...but he definitely wasn't at his best.
Bassong was holding the defence together he went off, commented at the time this was not good for the team. Berra came on and the rest is history, we had no cohesion or ability to stop them scoring. How anyone can say he was rubbish today, very strange thing to say when he was covering so much ground.
Must be shocking for Bassong to get the ball and realize there is no bugger to pass it too.

MIRKO RANIERI - Viareggio vs Foggia - 12/02/12
18 Appearances · 1 Clean Sheet ·
Mirko Ranieri was not even on the bench as Viareggio lost 2-0 to Foggia. The young Italian keeper has not played since a bad performance against Carpi on the 15th January 2011 which the fans were not happy about, calling him immature and wondering why the manager kept persevering with him for so long after a number of bad performances. A few days later Viareggio bought 36 year old goalkeeper Massimo Gazzoli and Ranieri dropped to the bench.

Last Sunday, against Taranto, Gazzoli had the flu so didn't play but instead of Ranieri getting his place back in the side it was given to Giorgio Merlano who had only played in the first game of the season. It now seems that Ranieri has dropped to being 3rd choice keeper and is unlikely to get any more games.

Whoever has fucked up in the admin dept. should go directly to the next training session and apologise face-to-face for potentially denying those players the experience a semi-final against Ajax/Barca may have given them.

I hope none of these players become disillusioned with the shonky half-arsed running of this level of football and decide to leave... from Sherwood (whom I assumed picked the team) all the way down to the guy that deals with these players' registration, they should all take the blame. Shocking!

[col]BAYER LEVERKUSEN|31st January 2012[/col][col]Bundesliga|to End of Season[/col]
3 Appearances, 1 Subbed On, 2 Subbed Off, 0 Goals, 1 Assist

vs Barcelona (H) Champions League (Round of 16, 1st Leg) 14.02.2012
91' Subbed Off, 53' Yellow Card, 52' Assist

Having been included in Bayer Leverkusen's squad for the Champions League, he played in an attacking right back position, coming up against Adriano and then Pedro. Played 90+1 minutes of the 90+4, provided the assist in the 52nd minute for the equaliser and got booked in the 53rd minute for bringing down Adriano as Leverkusen lost 3-1. Leverkusen fans were generally delighted with his performance, hoping to sign him up at the end of his loan.

Corluka does brilliantly to make just enough space to float the ball to the far post, and Kadlec rises to head home.

Really good transfer. Strong transfer!

Good ... very good passes and runs wings! A real asset to now!

We enjoy on a man with such quality for the rest of the second round! Hopefully longer.

Best man yesterday with Renato. Has shown that he has just the class to do well against Barca

Buy! Very very strong. It's no coincidence that all three goals came on the other side.

[col]MILLWALL|26th January 2012[/col][col]Championship|to End of Season[/col]
5 Appearances, 1 Subbed On, 2 Subbed Off, 0 Goals, 0 Assists

vs Brighton (A) Championship (Round 31) 14.02.2012
62' Subbed Off, 6' Yellow Card

Ryan Mason played 62 minutes as Millwall drew 2-2 with Brighton. His substitution being a tactical one. He also received a yellow card in the 6th minute for unsporting behaviour after a foul on Inigo Calderon. I can't find any forum comments on his performance however here is a quote from the Millwall manager Kenny Jackett after last Saturday's game against Derby:

Josh Wright and Ryan Mason did well, even Ryan in the second half when we switched to 4-4-2 and he went out on the left. He is gaining his confidence now after his groin injury stopped him from coming to us straight away. People are starting to see the type of ability he has. I am looking for him to score as well because I think he is capable of breaking through and getting goals at Millwall.

HARRY KANE

[col]MILLWALL|1st January 2012[/col][col]Championship|to End of Season[/col]
11 Appearances, 2 Subbed On, 7 Subbed Off, 2 Goals, 2 Assists

vs Brighton (A) Championship (Round 31) 14.02.2012
73' Subbed On

Harry Kane came on in the 73rd minute as Millwall drew 2-2 with Brighton. No forum comments about his performance that I can find however here's what manager Kenny Jackett has said about him in the last few days:

Harry needs a goal but he has played his part. He is a very good footballer who can link the play well.

THOMAS CARROLL

[col]DERBY COUNTY|30th January 2012[/col][col]Championship|to End of Season[/col]
3 Appearances, 2 Subbed Off, 1 Goal, 0 Assists

vs Reading (H) Championship (Round 30) 14.02.2012
78' Subbed Off, 27' Foul Suffered

Tom played 78 minutes in central midfield before being substituted, as Derby lost 1-0.

Carroll and Hendrick, two players who are usually composed in possession, seemed flustered and surprised by the closing down of Reading.

They did enjoy and applaud a sweetly-struck crossfield pass by Carroll.

Carroll, quiet for long periods, made way for James Bailey.

Tom Carroll really does look the part.

Why does Carroll get a place ahead of Bailey. He might be able to make the odd pretty pass but he is physically slight and has no presence.

How Tom Carroll is starting ahead of Bailey I'll never know as that boy offers nothing and gives the ball away a hell of a lot more!

Tottenham midfielder Simon Dawkins returns to San Jose Earthquakes on loan

Tottenham midfielder Simon Dawkins will spend another year with the San Jose Earthquakes on loan in 2012, the MLS club confirmed on Tuesday.

Last year the 24-year-old scored six goals and added two assists in 26 appearances for the 'Quakes while on loan from Spurs.

“Simon did very well for us last season and we’re really happy to have him back,” said Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop.

“He’s talented on the ball, will take guys on and not only will set teammates up, but will create his own chances. With a year under his belt in our league, he knows what to expect now and should be ready to once again be a key piece for us.”

Dawkins' return was never guaranteed. The midfielder made Tottenham's 25-man Premier League squad, scored two goals for the reserves and spent a week on trial with FC Twente this off-season. But he will again swap London for the Bay Area in 2012.

“It was one of our primary offseason goals to bring Simon back to San Jose, but we had to be patient. In the end, that patience paid off,” said San Jose general manager John Doyle.

“We liked what we saw out of Simon last year. He’s a versatile player who adds another dimension to our lineup and we’re excited for his return to the club.”

Re: Loans thread

Dawkins is a poor man's Obika!! Seems to have been at the club for YEARS (in fact, didn't he leave, then return again?) but is perennially on loan - maybe there are a clutch of Spurs ressies for whom the First team is never really going to happen, but if they're happy to go out on Loan and play, whilst still being regarded as a 'Spurs player' then so be it... after all, we can't play EVERYONE!

ADAM SMITH
29th April 1991 (20)

[col]LEEDS UNITED|31st January 2012[/col][col]Championship|to End of Season[/col]
3 Appearances, 1 Subbed Off, 0 Goals, 0 Assists

vs Coventry City (A) Championship (Round 31) 14.02.2012
74' Subbed Off, 65' Foul Committed, 46' Foul Suffered, 46' Foul Suffered, 39' Foul Suffered, 1' Foul Suffered

Adam Smith played 74 minutes in the right back position as Leeds lost 2-1. Throughout the game Adam took throw ins and free kicks and got in a few crosses. He had a hard time up against Gary McSheffrey.

Adam Smith conceded possession and left his side exposed on the right wing and vulnerable to another header.

Gary McSheffrey was also passing Adam Smith with ease at every opportunity.

That Nimley caused us problems all night and Mcsheffrey was having the better of Smith.

If the game is so streched why have we brought O'Brien on for Smith? (Tactical - not injured)

ANDROS TOWNSEND
16th July 1991 (20)

[col]LEEDS UNITED|1st January 2012[/col][col]Championship|to End of Season[/col]
6 Appearances, 1 Subbed On, 1 Subbed Off, 2 Unused Sub, 0 Goals, 0 Assists

vs Coventry City (A) Championship (Round 31) 14.02.2012
Since Leeds sacked Simon Grayson 2 weeks ago, and Neil Redfearn took over as caretaker manager, Andros Townsend has lost his place in the first team and been on the bench every game. Once more he was an unused substitute and it seems his chances will be limited until Leeds hire a new manager.

why doesnt townsend start

Because...he's not as... defensively minded as Pugh? Honestly God knows

Obviously i thought Redfearns tactics and subs were shocking, Townsend should have started / if not come on.

DAVID BUTTON
27th February 1989 (22)

[col]DONCASTER ROVERS|1st January 2012[/col][col]Championship|to End of February[/col]
6 Appearances, 3 Clean Sheets

vs Blackpool (H) Championship (Round 31) 14.02.2012
72' Concedes Goal, 72' Save, 58' Save, 34' Concedes Goal, 20' Concedes Goal, 13' Save, 13' Save, 1' Save

David Button played the whole game as Doncaster lost 3-1. The promising young keeper made a couple of good saves during the game and was given a rating of 6 out of 10 by the Doncaster Free Press.

On-loan Rovers goalkeeper David Button, outstanding against the Tigers, saved well from Novan Dicko three minutes later.

YAGO FALQUE
4th January 1990 (22)

[col]SOUTHAMPTON|16th January 2012[/col][col]Championship|to End of Season[/col]
1 Appearance, 1 Subbed Off, 1 Unused Sub, 0 Goals, 0 Assists

vs West Ham (A) Championship (Round 31) 14.02.2012
Yago was once more not even on the bench as Southampton drew 1-1. He had played earlier in the day for Southampton U-21s vs Brighton U-21s in a 0-0 draw. Saints fans don't see a way back into the team for him.

to be blunt I cant see where Steve De Ridder, Dan Harding and Falque will fit into our plans now, except in a real injury crisis.

Falque should offer the sort of passing options at the top of the field... but I question whether they were the right signings to make at this time.

Sharp will come good and tadanari will get his chance, as will De Ridder again. Just leaves Falque out in the cold, says something about the squad right now!

DEAN PARRETT
16th November 1991 (20)

[col]YEOVIL|13th January 2012[/col][col]League One|to End of Season[/col]
5 Appearances, 3 Subbed Off, 0 Goals, 1 Assist

vs Wycombe Wanderers (A) League One (Round 30) 14.02.2012
90' Foul Commited, 84' Yellow Card, 84' Foul Commited, 78' Foul Commited, 77' Foul Commited, 21' Foul Suffered, 20' Foul Commited, 3' Foul Commited

Dean Parrett played the whole game and was booked in the 84th minute for persistent fouling as Yeovil won 3-2. No much mention of him in match reports or fan forums which suggests to me he didn't have a particularly bad or outstanding game.

JONATHAN OBIKA
12th September 1990 (21)

[col]YEOVIL|4th August 2011[/col][col]League One|to End of Season[/col]
16 Appearances, 2 Subbed On, 5 Subbed Off, 2 Goals, 1 Assist

vs Wycombe Wanderers (A) League One (Round 30) 14.02.2012
90' Subbed Off, 90' Foul Commited, 87' Yellow Card, 70' Shot Off Target, 69' Offside, 64' Shot Off Target, 60' Assist, 49' Shot Off Target, 40' Foul Suffered, 13' Foul Suffered

Obika got his first assist of the season, to help equalise the score to 1-1, as Yeovil won 3-2. He played the whole game, other than a few seconds at the end and was booked in the 87th minute for encroachment.

Jonathan Obika's low cross was touched by Chairboys goalkeeper Nikki Bull only for Williams to tap into the empty net.

Obika's first touch was frustrating, but to be fair he was working on scraps and hoof-balls, unlucky not to score tonight at times, but provided good hold up play.

JOHN BOSTOCK
15th January 1992 (20)

[col]SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY30th January 2012[/col][col]League One|to End of Season[/col]
3 Appearances, 1 Subbed On, 1 Subbed Off, 0 Goals, 0 Assists

vs Stevenage (H) League One (Round 31) 14.02.2012
Bostock was not in the match squad as Sheffield Wednesday lost 1-0. Has announced on his twitter that he has a virus and hopes to shake it off for Saturday.

Megson also revealed that John Bostock and Ryan Lowe would have started last night’s game but were ruled out by illness and a calf injury respectively.

Not sure what to make of the bostock situation. Hopefully just not match fit yet. Really feel the boy has a lot to offer. Play him Meggo because the boy has talent. Seems to be sticking with Madine even though he is not firing time to show faith in Bostock because he clearly has the talent.

hope bostock is well enough to play saturday put him in the middle

NATHAN BYRNE
5th June 1992 (19)

[col]BOURNEMOUTH|28th July 2011[/col][col]League One|to End of Season[/col]
12 Appearances, 2 Subbed Off, 0 Goals, 0 Assists

vs Leyton Orient (H) League One (Round 31) 14.02.2012
Nathan Byrne is still out with an ankle injury as Bournemouth lost 2-1. There is no further news on his injury other than an ETA of February.

KUDUS OYENUGA
18th March 1993 (19)

[col]ST. JOHNSTONE|31st January 2012[/col][col]Scottish Premier League|to End of Season[/col]
1 Appearance, 1 Subbed On, 2 Unused Sub, 0 Goals. 0 Assists

vs Hearts (H) Scottish Cup (5th Round) 14.02.2012
108' Subbed On

Kudus made his debut for St. Johnstone in the 18th minute of extra time as St. Johnstone were knocked out of the cup by a 2-1 scoreline. He was brought on for defender Stephen Anderson as St. Johnstone chased the win, only to concede a goal 9 minutes later.

Re: Loans thread

Oscar Jansson has joined Shamrock Rovers on loan until June 30.
The Swedish Under-21 international, who has previous loan experience at Exeter City and Northampton, joins up with our Europa League opponents ahead of the Irish Premier League season that begins on March 2.
