Honestly it’s hysterical, United are unbeaten in Europe this season - if they win the Europa are you seriously telling me that they are less deserving than the side who finish 5th in one of the worst league seasons I can remember.
If it's Manure then they should get a pass into the Conference.

The far more reasonable solution is to decrease the amount of CL places that can be won through the league.
I may be wrong but I think the team finishing 5th have to enter some sort of qualifying stage in the CL, one that is not required for the previous season's EL winner who go straight through to the league phase.
The new coefficient system means that the two leagues that collectively does best in Europe earns an extra spot in the CL league phase.
The issue with this is that the Prem, who already have a lot of spots in the three European competitions, is almost guaranteed to get one of those spaces.
The idea was good in theory with the chance to give some leagues an extra chance in Europe. But it didn't survive in practice.

I think that those are teams from smaller European top leagues that get to enter at a qualifying system. I see, thanks, so it's still possible to drop out of the CL and into the EL in that CL qualifying stage where the smaller European leagues compete, because they weren't properly in the CL to start with.
We didn’t get the extra place this season because Newcastle and Utd were crap in the CL and finished bottom of their group so not going into the Europa.
No guarantee for next season as the points are averaged out over the number of clubs a country has in Europa. Notable that both Italy and Germany have missed out this time , both having 8 teams in Europa as opposed to us and Spain having 7.

Wenger's a complete tit and I don't know why anyone listens to him. I remember when he wanted to replace throw-ins with "kick-ins" because Stoke always scored against his Woolwich team from a Rory Delap long throw and he couldn't coach his team of twats to defend against them. Now he's proposing clear daylight for offsides as though that will stop all controversial VAR calls. Of course it won't.

5th in the PL is the champion of nothing
Possibly, depending on how it's implemented. But I suspect that it would just move the "toenail" calls to between the players instead of in front of them. It could even make it worse because there would be multiple points of contact between them. I don't think it's as simple as Wenger is suggesting.
And funnily enough 5th is the usual position for merely qualifying for a competition that they are now claiming that winning isn't good enough.
