Clasie in particular - aggression, incisiveness, quickness, vision, grit, defensive ability.

Clasie eh? 1 goal in 40 games from a midfielder in the Erediv? Sound like a Spurs player through and through! He sounds like another lopsided skillage in teh village ball juggler. We have plenty of them. We don't need more kids with wicked skillz. Last season he had 20 games and ZERO assists. Fuck me! Spurs through and through!

We need experience and steel to form a base for the mercurial talent we already have.

We lack goals from midfield. We don't need another damp squib scuffathon with his thumb in his mouth.

It is not the responsibility of the DLP to be a goalscorer, it is to provide the optimal conditions for a team to score and provide the possession that prevents the opponent from scoring. Simple stuff Gibbsy.

-awaits repeat of same point rehashed-

How many deep lying playmakers are actually in the prem these days? Top 4 midfields are dynamic. If anyone skirts the back 4 or dictates from deep, he's usually a killer in the tackle, in the air and can also pick out a pass from defense that can split defences plus cut out through balls. If they are limited in one of these areas they are usually set piece specialists or help in other ways like scoring and assisting.

If you want one of these mythical beasts, you will have to spend insane amounts of money.

I'm realistic. I don't rub one out over how other teams are cutting us apart and ask how can we emulate them. They are doing it because we are paper thin down the WINGS/SPINE. We can fix that because we have beasts at this club that have been in and out, rotted or just plain played out of position.

We have the ability at Spurs to beast and ragdoll teams, and have real class in the final third instead of Townsend, Lennon, Defoe, Soldado etc fucking around.

It's obvious why we are envious of teams that ripped us apart. NAILED ON OBVIOUS: Overloaded with Holtby, Defoe, Eriksen, Rose, Naughton, Chadli, Siggy, Lennon etc etc and lack of spine and paper thin wings is a GLOWING NEON SIGN TO ATTACKING US AT WILL down the left and right.

Imagine a team without Lennon, Townsned, Rose, Naughton, Walkers 100+ shots at goal in the prem! Imagine set pieces with Capoue, Sandro, Kaboul, Walker, Kane, Ade etc etc attacking them and Eriksen taking them. How good in Paulinho at bundling in chaos in the box?

That is what frustrates me about this team. This season it was Townsend. Next season it could be Carroll that makes us a laughing stock and softens our underbelly and blunts our attacks with nice tappy tappy passy predictable buildup.

I think you should look into swapping your allegiance to West Ham or Stoke. They play the kind of football it seems you're looking for.

So you equate Jan, Walker, Dembele, Vlad, Capoue, Kaboul, Sandro, Paulinho, Bentaleb, Chadli, Eriksen, Lamela, Ade etc with West Ham?

I'd love to hear this one...

Dembele, Jan, Vld, Eriksen, Lamela etc are rolls royces and even the blood and thunder players like Kaboul can play good football.

Once again Gibbsy ol boy, it's about balance. You have to have grit (which I agree with you we're lacking on a bit at the moment), as well as "flashy skills." Having your big fellas in the wide areas is not the immediate solution. We could use more grit in the middle, such as a healthy Sandro/Capoue and two CB's willing to put their jugulars in front of a strike, be vocal, and yet capable of a pass.

Have seen any tape of Clasie play? To insinuate he is a "flashy kid" with no "blood and thunder" would be an absolute contradiction. He is one of the best tacklers in the Erevisie, and one of the best I've ever seen from a player of his size. The time it takes him to remove the ball from any player, regardless of size, and disperse the ball into an open position or even streaking forward is incredible. We're talking two or three seconds from ball at opponent's foot in attack to at foot of Clasie's teammate within yards of the opposing box. That is exactly the kind of play we're lacking, off the kind of grit we're lacking. Balance amigo, it's how shit gets done in this sport.

Yes it is. Immediate solution is EXACTLY what it is compared to Eriksen and Rose or Lennon and Naughton debacle in defence over the course of this season. With hindsight, an immediate solution is EXACTLY what it is.

I'm still waiting for you to see why you think the players I listed are West Ham like.

No I don't watch that league. Will he get the same amount of space in the prem? Is he tackling the same players in the prem? Does he have experience our young team needs?

The chances of him being the mythical beast that is the withdrawn playmaker people pine for is a huge longshot. The chances of us having the potential future Brazilian midfield is more likely.

Interesting. You desire clonkers on the wings and then ask me to clarify my very clear point about West Ham's style. There is no further reading into it beyond that.

It is absurd to rule out or rule in individual players based on nationality or previous league. For instance, I strongly advocated the acquisition of Eriksen from the Eredivisie and was opposed to the acquisition of Lamela from Serie A. One league is stronger, but look out how the players turned out in their immediate suitability to the Prem. You must assess on a more individual level.

Why are you mentioning wings? Since when has 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 have wingers/wingbacks?

You just took a weak swing with the West Ham ref. What are we going to do? Boot it up to Lamela? FFS you talk a weak game. Eriksen!!! ON THE HEAD SON!!!!

OK. Writing off Lamela and Paulinho. Noted.

Our defensive players are swashbuckling style let alone our midfielders. We only have a handful of throwbacks in Daws. Even Kane has some skillage. Your West Ham comment is fucking dense.

I don't even know how to respond to this second part. It simply makes no sense.

But as for your question of formations using wingers/wingbacks, you saw a 4-3-3 just yesterday rip the defending Champions of Europe using wingbacks. Fucking hell you are a waste of time with your nonsense. I just hope you don't infect others with your poison, the only reason I even merit your responses with a second.

Nor this.

No, you sir are "fucking dense." West Ham plays with clonkers in the wide positions. The best teams have size and strength centrally balanced with slighter players with quicker feet to disperse and work the ball to other slighter players in the wide positions.

Block him. Best thing I've done on this forum. Save yourself the stress. He can't be reasoned with.

Right..All we have to do is buy Bale and Ronaldo and we are good.

Remember what I said about being realistic? Using Real Madrid to win an argument = yawn.

I have, yet I still get suckered in :vdvcry:

What is it that is so unreasonable about my argument? Last year people were telling me I needed a lobotomy because I did not rate Rose, Townsend, Lennon, Defoe, Huddlestone etc.

Here I am again, surrounded by lolcats because I think Lamela, Ade, Eriksen etc has a future at the club when it comes to creativity and I don't think the grass is greener outside some leftbacks and right back backup.

The West Ham clunkers you keep talking (bollocks) about...How have those speed merchants done for us on the wings this year? Gotta trust ole Gibbsy.

To be honest, we seem to make enough chances (statistically), we just don't finish them.

Equally, we are solid at the base defensively, with the nature of our conceded goals alluding more to defenders making ridiculous errors, rather than being out-skilled or bombarded.

The fact that the majority of players have been running on 50% form all season suggests that the real problem is the one we're hopefully on to already - coaching.

Aside from that, a forward line that can take their chances better (or at least without having to have some sort of revenge fuelled form) would be far more useful.

I'm convinced the only difference between Liverpool and Spurs (including Rodgers) is not the midfield so much, but the front line grabbing their chances and converting them. A Modric style player would be great, but not as important as a good coach and a sharp striker, im o.
