Main problems for me have been:

- Son horrendous form. His usual form would likely have us sitting in the top 4 now.
- Kulu form dropped off.
- Richy 0 goals.
- The existence of Dier.
- And more recently the loss of Bentancur.

The off-season when Conte ran the squad and implemented his full system instead of tweaking what clearly worked last season when Son-Kane-Kulu were the most dangerous front 3 in the league.

It went wrong years ago by way of poor recruiting and development.

The 5-2-0 start was just smoke and mirrors, similar to the 3-0-0 nuno start. No advanced statistic reflected the 17 out of 21 points were deserved. Chelsea, wolves, west ham and Fulham were all fortunate results. And per usual, the results soon started to reflect the performances.

We were never good this season.

Very poor recruitment in the summer , which have brought in players with little or none so impact.
Our January signings have not improved performance.
A restricted transfer policy that targets prospects , sell on value and transfer run downs.
A chairman who is incompetent .
A owner who can't give a toss

As has been mentioned, I think it’s pretty obvious what’s gone wrong.

Primary reasons:
1) Poor summer recruitment. Starting 11 has not improved from last year which we should always be striving to do.
2) Son out of form. Arguably our most important player last year and he’s fallen off a ledge which has affected our goal output, especially in key games as our goal tally isn’t terrible.
3) Defensive shambles. Don’t need to say more, taken a massive step back here.
4) Conte - Complete failure to adjust or react to any of our deficiencies. Kept playing Son, kept playing 5 at the back and 2 in the middle, same tactics…..just wasn’t and isn’t working.

Secondary reasons
No output from Richy, Kulu has gone missing in a lot of games, Bentacur injury, injuries in general (but every team has injuries)…ah there’s loads.

- Signing players on loan like Clement Lenglet instead of players like Bastoni.

- Allowing Eric Dier to start for a team with ambitions of winning the league instead of signing someone like Skriniar.

- Not inventing a time machine and slapping the face of the dickhead who had the bright idea of getting rid of Alderweireld and Vertonghen, the best CB pairing we've had in recent memory.

- Employing a manager who promotes negative counter attacking wankball after sacking a manager who plays negative counter attacking wankball then claiming we were going to sign a manager who didn't promote negative counter attacking wankball.

- Players being massive bottlejobs/pussies/wage thiefs.

- Having a corrupt DOF who is shit at his job.

- Having a Chairman who would struggle to oversee a 10 year old's 5-a-side party running our club.

- Having a large section of entitled, scumbag matchday fans who find it acceptable to relentlessly boo a player (who yes, is shit) who was playing his first game in months, out of position when the person responsible for us being shit is several times his pay grade.

Everything with us is just toxic as fuck.

Not getting two defenders. Even if we didn’t have the money it would’ve been better if we bought 2 defenders for 30m each than to buy Richarlison who never played anyway.

Add to that a tactically stubborn manager that thought he was doing us a favour, and a crooked director of football , and you've got the lot.

Romero was already at the club. The (very public) target was 2 top class CBs last summer.

The club completely failed to achieve that.

we brought in a manager who's whole schtick is playing 3 CBs. He told them, "I win things but I need good CB's!".
Then the club looked at the CBs he wanted and they cost 70m Bastoni, 90m Gvardiol and they went "How about Lenglet on loan?"

It was the football equivalent of getting a top of the range interior designer to write you a plan for your multi-million pound mansion, then seeing the budget and trying to recreate it with stuff from Ikea,

You are making excuses for Conte's sh!t.

Conte did shit.

Club has some blame attached.

They appointed him for a start, knowing he needs pretty much the highest budget in the league he is in to win. If you know you won't spend what he needs, why bring him in?

Okay but you expect more.

Look around and not every team has top quality centre backs or players.

If you did not know Conte had won trophies elsewhere you would have been well withim your rights to have called him a novice.

But he isn't a novice. He's won everywhere else he's been. ENIC Hotspurs are novices.

Other teams didn't bring in Antonio Conte, the coach most well known in the world for playing 3 CBs, then not sign a single permanent, CB.

It is a point that is made by Leonid Slutsky, the former Rubin boss who has managed him for more matches than anyone else.

"What he is doing is not a surprise to me," Slutsky tells Sky Sports.

"Nobody knew about him before he came to Italy and that is understandable because the Russian league is not a popular league around Europe. But everybody in Russia knew. His quality, his position in world football now, that is not a surprise to any of us.

Napoli did their homework. A certain Premier League club did too. "A year ago, there was very serious interest from Tottenham. It was almost a done deal."

"I congratulate Napoli because they won the lottery. For next to nothing they have a £100m player."

So near, but not quite there. Fine margins on getting top class players or not. Maybe player just fancied the more leisurely Serie A ?
