Im really bored and I've been wondering today how many of our goals come from midfield, defence and from up top, compared to the rest of the teams around us.
Tottenham:
Defence - 8 - 13.79%
Midfield - 33 - 56.89%
Forwards - 17 - 29.31%
Total - 58
Woolwich:
Defence - 6 - 7.89%
Midfield - 38 - 50%
Forwards - 32 - 42.11 %
Total - 76
(This is with Walcott as a Midfielder, if you include him as a striker then its 'Midfield - 26.31%' and 'Forwards - 65.78%')
Chelsea:
Defence - 21 - 20.79%
Midfield - 57 - 56.43%
Forwards - 23 - 22.77%
Total - 101
United:
Defence - 12 - 14.28%
Midfield - 19 - 22.61%
Forwards - 53 - 63.09%
Total - 84
City:
Defence - 7 - 12.96%
Midfield - 21 - 32.81%
Forwards - 36 - 56.25%
Total - 64
This basically just shows how desperate we are for a clinical finisher. Other than Chelsea who also need a proper finisher (may have found that with Ba), all of the other teams close to us (with Walcott as a striker) have had more than 50% of their goals scored by their strikers, compared to our 29%. You could argue that all of these teams have top class creative midfields such as Carrick, Silva, Hazard, Mata etc supplying their strikers whereas we have had Dempsey, Dembele, Sandro and more recently Parker having to be creative; compared to VDV and Modric last season. Lets hope Holtby continues his current form and progresses even further into that role.
Obviously this tells us nothing new and nothing that we didn't already know, I just thought it would be interesting to see.
