Why we can finish top 4

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I see the point your trying to make, but i could ask the same question about when we last qualified.....what happened then ? Did we keep our best players ? Did we push on as a club ? Did we carry on qualifying ?

When liverpool nearly won the league the other season, that hadnt qualified for the cl ? Being in that competition does not guarentee you anything. So when you club is starved of honours like we are, to obsess and prioritse it, is madness, is it not ?

well when we first got in thats when we missed our chance at maintaining a consistent push because we didn't invest properly that summer and were stuck with people like Crouch and Palacios in the team.
That was the time to put the cash in when we actually got in, not when we are playing catch up like so many times before.

Getting Champions League at this stage of our progression with this young team and a new stadium on the horizon would be outstanding. We'd get a whole new source of income, we'd have the opportunity to bring in some excellent talent to mesh well with the brilliant youngsters we have and really aim for the future.

The year we made it under Harry really seemed like smash and grab. I don't think we were on the level of the teams we were competing with but we had a great season. I thought we were much better a few years later when we actually finished fourth but missed out due to that game in Germany. I thought THAT year we were on par with those around us and thought we'd really push on if we had Champions League and almost certainly would have kept Modric too in my view.

You dont keep players when real madrid come in for them, even if your in the cl or not. People believe that being in the cl suddenly sprinkles the club with magic dust, and allows you to keep your best players, compete for titles and makes players want to come to you. Its a complete falacy.

Did utd keep ronaldo, livepool keep suarez ? And lets not get even get into Woolwich.
As for needing it for the new stadium......daniel levy is a lot of things, i cant stand the twat, but what he is, is a good business man, and good businessman dont build stadiums depending on qualification to a a competition. The club can afford the stadium being in the cl or not. Also people thinking that building the new stadium is suddenly going to be a game changer for us as regards to buying 40 million pound players and competing for the title are in for a bit of a shock aswell

If Leicester won the title and qualified for the Cl would they suddenly be attracting the best players in the world?
Wages has a lot to do with it as well as transfer fees. They would also not earn as much from the CL as everyone else.
People seem to forget that the biggest teams earn more than anyone else in the CL market pool.
For instance in 13/14 Man C got a total of €35m for making the round of 16 yet Bayern, in the same group made €44m for reaching semi final. Chavs made €43m for reaching semi and Man U €44m for reaching the QF!
Woolwich got half as much as Napoli & OM did and less than Dortmund from the market pool of that group.

If we made it to the CL and had a decent run I suspect we would make about €30m
To have a squad full of the best players you also have to pay a huge wage bill.
If we got into the CL we may be able to tempt some of the young talent being watched by other teams such as Man U, City, woolwich etc.
As for signing the best established players, forget it.

United kept Ronaldo long enough to win three titles and fa cup and a champions league ffs and Suarez was a million times too good for liverpool which has been proven since he left.
And what about woolwich? presume you're on about cesc and rvp? the former has been crap since and the latter had one full good season in him and is also finished-who else did they lose who has actually done anything of note after they left?
Henry nearly past it when he left and won a title with barca is all i can think of.

had to have some!!.. theres not an outstanding team whatsoever.. couldn't believe it tbh.. just taken 16/1 e/way and we are that price!
fucking Liverpool 6/1!!!! why for fucks sake.

I think that Levy will be seriously contemplating investing in the January transfer window. The league is wide open, Chesea have fucked it, United are, well... United and City are dropping points left right and centre. I'm not saying that we're going to win the league but taking the above into consideration, we've got as good a chance as any to finish in the top four.

We need a back up to Kane. I love him dearly, he's sex on legs and I'm glad that he's 'one of our own'. But if he gets injured we're fucked. We don't have an out and out striker to fill his boots. It's not just if he's injured. He's a human being and will have an off day every now and then. It'd be nice to have someone to come off the bench if he's not having the best of games.

So yeah. A striker would be nice :)

IMO bottom line is qualifying for CL takes priority and if we do it by winning EL then great otherwise finish in top 4

I think the point is without the new stadium we will be unable to sustain cl level players/wages, I doubt anyone simply thinks that a new stadium means we will be buying 100mil pound players

we've only won 6 fucking games all season. It's only Pochs amazing ability to get a bunch of youth prospects performing at such an incredible level that's kept Levy sweet these past few months. That so many think this squad can make top 4 is fucking laughable. Levy shit all over us last summer as usual, and he'll do the same in January.

We're one win off top four, so based on that alone it's not a "laughable" prospect.

Whether or not Levy will shaft us in January remains to be seen. But we are in a decent enough position that top four is not out of the question. Plus it's a bit disingenuous to say "we've only won six" when our draws count for another 8 points....games that we would have lost in previous seasons.

Fact is that we are more solid then we were last year and we rely less now on one or two individuals for our performance. We need more firepower and I think we then might have something. It's clear we were going for more firepower in the summer (although, IMO, Levy fucked that up by not having a back up plan) so I think much will depend on whether or not Levy bothers to try and sign an additional source of goals in Jan.

its going to be an uphill struggle to get 4th spot.
1 win in 5 & i think the players already look jaded.
which is worrying as its not even xmas yet.

The players are tired seems to be a go to excuse whenever we lose or fail to win.

We didn't look tired in the first half when we were dominating Newcastle and 1-0 up. Second half Newcastle simply wanted it more. That in itself is disappointing but at no point in that game did I feel any player looked tired. Never an excuse.

If the players are tired thats the fault of the coaching staff.
