There's still a chance we can get it. Chelsea is still struggling and far behind, United is looking quite bad, and Leicester should start losing some steam in 2016. But we have to get better. Hopefully the Newcastle loss was a wake up call.
I think partly our bad results lately have been caused by mentality issues. The press and so called experts have started talking about us as one of the best teams, probably making some players think they are vastly better than the opponents. They aren't. They've looked good through effort and team work, two factors that are crucial for any success for this group.
Simultaneously I believe our unbeaten run has been something we've been eager to maintain. We may have been too eager not to loose, making us get caucious when we're in front, instead of keeping our attacking football going. When we stop playing our game, we can be quite shitty.
Then we need our manager to make the right decisions. I absolutely support him for his team- and player building abilities, but he is losing us points by picking the wrong people, putting people in the wrong roles, and making bad subs.
Against Newcastle we needed to regain control of the game in the second half. He takes Carroll off, pulls Alli down from AM to CM, and put Son on. Alli is less disciplined positionally than Carroll, and Son is more of a liability on the ball and worse defensively than Alli. We needed more control of the game, he gave us less.
Using Alli as an AM in the first place is also wrong, imo. His runs are great, but when he makes early runs from an AM position we play more long balls and he chases balls often quite isolated, often ending up in us losing it. It opens up the game more, but not in a good way for us, imo. Part of the reason why Eriksen seems bad at the moment, I believe, is the fact that too much of our play is long balls over our AMs, rather than us playing through them. Eriksen needs to be involved in the game, he's not the type of player to fight for the ball. We need to actually play positive football to include him. Alli needs to be a CM, and we should have an AM with some defensive fibers to potentially cover for Alli when he makes runs, such as Bentaleb, Mason, or preferable Dembele.
And we desparately need Kane to deliver consistently good performances. He's been outright bad for too big parts of this season.
