Why we can finish top 4

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I'd just draw the conclusion that Danny isn't a great defender. I'm not saying he's a bad player. I just fear for our defense whenever he plays. He has a lot of heart and commitment, but lacks a footballing brain it seems.

You can conclude what you wish though. If I was Gibbs I would sprout on about how he isn't a beast and how we need to sign George Elokobi however.
i was just kidding mate, you are entitled to your opinions obviously and i for one like that we have two completely different leftbacks. Both can be used in a different way, Rose has improved a lot but will always be a bit of a risk (brain farts seem to be a common thing with him) whereas Davies is a bit underwhelming when going forward.

True. But if we signed George Elokobi, we would have a left back who can't defend well or attack well, but fuck me would he be strong! :bentalebscream:

We just don't have any decent full backs

But we do have a good centre back partnership and back up with Wimmer but give me Rose n Walker over Trippier n Davies anyday

We have a superb keeper and two good centre backs I agree with you there but I'm not happy with any of our full backs and even my best two Rose and Walker always have mistakes in them.

Why is Yedlin out on loan?
Surely he shd be first choice?

As for Hitler and Stalin I am perfectly aware of their ends of the political spectrum I was just making the point that they were equally evil so not much of a choice!

H & S I was just making a funny?

As for Walker and Rose or Davies , mistakes are there only because as a team we full short? Ashley Cole made errors, Nevil at Utd also, The only differance I can see they were in teams that were collectively better so were complimented. Any full back which is exposed will be vulnerable.

We can finish top four because defensivly we are better than last season, we just need to sort out the other end. Saying that each game as it comes, beat Villa and look forward to Thur. We are not at Xmas yet so a long way to go?

Sorry mate but I'd even have Trippier over Yedlin at the moment. Walker is a far better player than most give him credit for and is streets ahead of Yedlin. Played nearly every minute in the best defence in the premier league, give him a break.

My biggest criticism of our full backs is their lack of positional awareness and the fact that they leave us exposed on the wings on the counter because of the system we play and a lack of cover from the midfield.

In that respect, trust me, Yedlin is not the answer.

He was terrible yesterday for Sunderland. Absolutely no desire to defend at all, spent most of the game so far up the pitch i actually thought he was playing as part of a front three.

Fat Sam was fuming!

When we get it right as against City our FBs are the business. When we get to wrong as against Liverpool we can keep a clean sheet?

We have a decent defence and should not knock it. My only concern is, do we have adequate cover-time will tell?

But those were tactics, can't criticise a fullback for playing high up the pitch when that is what they are instructed to do. Fat Sam went with 3 at the back. (BTW not defending Yedlin as i think he is a bit shit).

As for our fullbacks I think they are positionally great, again playing the roll their manager wants from them. When defending we are compact and keep our shape, very few teams pass through us, we no longer dive in and commit ourselves. In order to "open up" a game we have to take risks and push our fullbacks up the pitch, during a game there will be moments where this space behind them will be targeted by the oppo, at the moment that risk is paying off. My only gripe I have with our fullbacks and the supporting Midfield is not blocking crosses, they do allow a fair few to come into our box and I think the only vulnerability our CB's have shown has been in the air (Toby being better than Jan in the air), block the cross at it's source and we have almost the perfect defence.

Oh i agree, that it's a more of a problem born of the system, rather than down to individual players. The crossing thing is also a pet hate of mine. Particularly when you can see that opponents are targeting us with it (down our right normally). Monaco and Swansea were two particularly bad games for it, one after another.

Many of us seem to want Davies to play more like Rose, and vice versa and I probably include myself in that. Weird when you think about it.

Need to put them in the teleporter at the same time and splice them like Brundlefly.
