Yeah he's looked immense so far.

Same as their first game but I agree with your viewpoint.

Of our three front men he has looked the least impressive in many respects and yet it's he who sits with 2 goals.

Switzerland are a good side and it will take a strong one to beat them.. It's bizarre that I think we would fare better against them, possibly because of our mode of play.

In some games you need stylists and it's why I think Brazil only win this once they turn to their more creative players. Clear to see why Neymar adds so much value.

Meant to reply to this yesterday, Steve, but got sidetracked. Surely it depends on the tactics and the personnel you’ve got available.

Both these coaches were using false 9’s to do specific jobs with regards to the high press, which was helping them to maintain a high line which was in turn enabling them to limit the opposition chances.

In Germany’s case, the only real 9 they have is hardly “elite”. Muller is such a smart footballer, with and without the ball as well, and scores goals. It’s not like Fullkrug’s goal was about a striker’s prowess or composure either, he basically just whacked it.

I thought this was the highest quality game of the tournament so far in terms of tactics/quality of players/IQ. I don’t think there will be many teams that make this Spain team think as hard. It was a bit like watching a City/Liverpool game - which also are often strikerless.
I understand the tactics but the downside is these false 9s don't provide the cutting edge that a proper no 9 will - they don't instinctively make the runs to the near post or take up a position as the back post, they don't have the physical presence to make life difficult for the centre halves or hold the ball up. They don't hang on the shoulder. Even good players like Muller don't do it. And it showed in the number of chances created, lots of good play but lacking that cutting edge.

The German isn't elite at all but he's decent and it makes a difference. Kuntz in 96 was only decent but he still made the right runs and caused problems. The centre halves weren't worried about Muller and it showed. Same with the German centre halves.

Both these teams could do with playing centre forwards from now on, Germany especially and I expect them to, quite rightly.

I think the strength of Europes top sides are making the 2nd tier European teams better prepared. If Africa or Asia regularly played against Germany/England/Portugal/France/Spain, then they’d perform better.

Instead they just get the odd friendly and are unprepared for the World Cup.

There is no one in Africa or Asia that compares to the top European sides or Brazil.

Brazil the better team and will probably win as the Swiss tire in the second half but there's something in this for the Swiss - they need to get balls into the box when they work it wide but they've not done it enough so far.

Paquetá subbed at HT........ He'd have lasted 90m if had more EPL experience.

Deuterz Deuterz :richlips:

Utter nothing player. At least Mount can take a set piece.

Again, reason he's at West fucking Ham. If some brilliant Brazilian midfielder in his prime was available, all the top clubs would've been all over it.
