Tokyo.
That is truly an art that has been lost here in the decadent old world. There is a lot that we could learn from a vibrant young nation like yourselves: How to organise a soccer tournament; how to swindle customers into paying a portion of your employees' wages; and, most importantly, how to make bartending great again!I think you’ve been watching too much TV showing homey, midwestern diners maybe.
I don’t get cheesy saccharin service. I get fast, efficient, unobtrusive service where my coffee cup is refilled before I ask for it.
I probably spend 10 weeks or so every year outside of the U.S. — mostly but not exclusively in Europe or Asia — and absolutely fucking nowhere beats urban U.S. service.
My friends who drink tell me that the bartenders in New York (even if the service can be surly) are the most efficient on the planet.

I’ll not be cheering Scotland on in the first place. Would struggle to make more than a few of our players to be honest. Not that interested in international football. But I’ll watch some of the tournament due to nosiness. The question is, who will you be cheering on once Scotland are heading back after a week? I don’t suppose it will be England.![]()
But very surprising that the wonderful waitresses of Boston will scream at people who don’t give them a wedge of cash above their agreed salary. You’d think they’d be comfortable already and not need poor Rab to top them up?The median annual salary for a full-time employee in Scotland is approximately £39,720
The full-time individual median salary in Boston converts to £50,800 (that would be in the 85th percentile in the UK).
Not surprising that Rab can’t afford to tip.
