World Cup Teams Starting XI

Isco will most likely play, especially ahead of someone like Fabregas or even Pedro
I doubt it, has fallen down the pecking order at Real and Pedro has been arguably the best Spanish player in the League this year. Fabregas is the a player I think will play the whole tournament along with Pique and Puyol.

Blech. You're right that's probably what they'll play because they like the Barcelona continuity but they would be so much more fun if they went:

------------------Valdes--------------------
Carvajal-----Ramos-----Pique-----Alba
-------------------Busquets-------------------
--------------Koke-----Xavi----------------
Silva-----------Negredo--------Iniesta
Yer, I'd like to see Thiago and Negredo play but I suspect Xavi, Puyol, Villa and maybe even Iniesta to retire internationally after this WC so will get their ''lap of honour'' as it were.

where is Sergio Agüero ?! i don't see Argentina without Aguero as starter...
Bench option, mate. It's been well documented that Messi's resurgence in form at a national level has a lot to do with a budding partnership with Higuain. I love Aguero, one of my favourite players, but I highly doubt he'll start if Higuain's fit.

Fucking mental you can have Cavani and Aguero not make the first team. Us Englishman can only admire.

But Cavani is uruguayan

Spain should be as good as ever but are a team coming to the end of a very successful period and there will be a few retirements after the WC with youngsters like Isco, Illaramendi, Koke, Thiago and Martinez coming in.

Valdes looks likely to take over the number 1 jersey if Casillas can't muscle himself back into Real Madrid's first team.

---------------------Valdes--------------------
Arbeloa-----Ramos-----Pique-----Alba
-------------------Busquets-------------------
--------------Alonso-----Xavi----------------
Pedro-----------Fabregas---------Iniesta

They'll more than likely rotate throughout the tournament with David Silva, Alvaro Negredo, Thiago and Javi Martinez featuring prominently.
Hasn't Costa chosen Spain over Brazil? If so, I'd personally put him in for Busquests, drop Alonso deeper, and Fabregas into CAM.

Or would people drop Alonso / Fabregas / Xavi instead of Busquets?

Either way, I think Costa should start.

I think Busquets is the first on their team sheet, Alonso and Xavi are also almost nailed on as well. If Alonso is not fit than Fabregas might play midfield. Fabregas is the one dropped if they play with Costa as a striker probably.

Fair enough. I watch a lot of Spanish football, but actually tend to avoid the games involving RM / Barca as they're very predictable, so can't really be the judge of Busquests vs Alonso vs Fabregas. I have seen a lot of Costa though and would be amazed if he doesn't start.

What about Germany's first XI? Can't even combine all those top players in one team, just an insane amount of talent. My top favorites to win the WC together with Brazil.

They are so stacked with midfield talent it's ridiculous. Always tough for European teams in the South American heat though.

I'd go with:
Neuer
Lahm Boateng Hummels Schmelzer
Schweinsteiger S. Bender
Muller Kroos Reus
Gotze

They'll probably play Ozil and Mertesacker but I have a no Woolwich policy. The health of Gundogan could also be a gamechanger.

Lars over Sven, no?

I really can't see Negredo or Diego Costa on the bench tbh. Spain have the luxury of being able to rotate their world-class midfield, and they should play one of those two strikers if they have the opportunity to do so (will create so much room for everyone else).

I agree, they should. But if qualification is an indicator of World Cup tactics, then Negredo and Costa both won't start.
