Looks more legit of a LW than Maddison or Modric ever did while covering LW.

For at least this season, while Frank waits for another full summer window to finish building the squad, I think we'll see Xavi at LW and play a strong CM like we did today. For bottom 5-6 prem oppo and oppo below that level, only then we can legitimately expect to play Xavi at the 10 and have enough quality in our CM pair to comfortably control the game. Legit exciting stuff though.

If he's going to play on the left though we need Udogie there for an overlap, not Spence.

Spence would work better with a touch line winger (Savinho) it's either one or the other.

That moment in the first likely would’ve been a goal where he put the ball behind… too bad Spence was 30 yards away. He definitely needs a runner.

Modric only played left mid in a midfield 4. Never as left winger in a front 3. Maddison has never played left wing for us.

Yes he did for Leicester and he would’ve been a better option for us last season there.

Modric was fantastic at left mid when he used to drift in and let BAE,Bale or Rose go on the overlap. He could always play that pass with the perfect weight between the right centre back and right back.
We were blessed to have Modric.

I’m not saying Xavi is going to be anywhere near the level of Modric but you can see how he glides across the turf and how he receives the ball reminds me of him.

Oh I agree Modric was good for us there, I just feel Xavi looks more like a real left-winger/forward in the modern sense. They were all good in their own way of course.

Aside from nicoclaesen 's contradiction.......

Quite a few times in the first half; Spence was in the middle third and had no-one ahead of him on the L-flank to forward the ball to cos Xavi was either behind him or had already cut into the center.

Xavi must have someone who can get up and down the pitch all day on the overlap. I don’t think Djed has any end product but he’s so good defensively that I think if you play Xavi there you need someone who is defensively sound. There’s a better balance with Udogie because he’s a lefty but he’s not a great defender and can’t cross the ball. At times though tonight you saw wee glimpses of a relationship between Xavi and DJed the longer the game went on.

Whatever happens and wherever we play Xavi I think we are going to enjoy having him.

What contradiction? Xavi will always want to come inside and play. Whoever plays left back needs to get up and down
 
You can instantly see he has so much ability and talent. Will be a special player.

Tidy debut and an assist.

He's a number 10 though, I feel he'll be wasted out left but I understand it now whilst he's adapting and settling in.
