Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A 22 yr old coming from a much free flowing league in Bundesliga was never going to shine in the midst of a front line that is being constructed from the scratch at the moment.

People clung on to him as some kind of a savior because he happened to arrive in the aftermath of the Eze saga, not because he had shown sure signs of a top player in the making.

He's showing positive signs. Getting into pockets of space and finding other teammates to link with.

I do think he stays on the ball a bit too long when he could be releasing it quicker.

IMO he needs to just keep playing , I think he's probably gotten a surprise at just how quick and physical the EPL is and he's taking a bit of time to adjust .
Technique alone isn't enough at this level .
When he finally gets it right he will flourish.

Shit fan ain't you.

Shitting on a kid, in a cluster-fuck of squad.
Should have played some youth.

But nah, let's keep playing the shit, and playing with 9 men

I'm quite keen to move him on now.

No no no no.... Shit is a useful fertilizer... He is not even that.

My old man said be a Johnson fan

I said fuc....

And people say we shouldn't play youth... So playing someone so completely useless is beneficial because?

Sorry, Mr Superfan.

Daft cunt. 😂

I didn’t watch much of the game but I thought in that 15 minutes before half time when we looked decent going forward he was looking like a much better player. I suspect the answer to him playing better is in that sentence.

Eze has had his whole career in PL is 5-6 years older and has been shit for Woolwich. Scuffed effort last week aside.
Difference is hes English, woolwich better players to play in his position and around him so its not noticed, and plays for woolwich. All which means less criticism from media.
The fact that their bell end supporters dont shit on him but ours do on a 22 yo new to the country and league is worrying

I mean - we should not yet write him off for good. I don't really enjoy statements like "he is shit" etc. Yea, expectations are clearly high if you come to a club as record signing to earn join-highest salary. It might be that he will struggle for most (or entire) first season. We just have to give him time.

But at the same time, I think we can say quite clearly that his performance yesterday was total shit. Hope everyone have minimal level of functional reading ability to understand difference between shit player and shit performance. He quite badly wasted many of our attacks where he received the ball already in promising position. And made some passes that just made me grab my head with two hands. Like that cross-field-ball in first half. My gosh.

At this point I would say that we need to pull him off for a bit and use him for last 20 minutes of the games... but it is not like we have many better options. Yesterday Bergvall actually made more things happened in last third of the pitch and actually created room and chances. But we are very light in terms of the available players, so that really complicates things.

Would really wish something would come off for him (a goal or beautifully set up goal for teammate) soon. I think he has technique and ability for it.

indeed.
he's been here exactly 2 months, that's no time whatsoever.

ideally he shouldve been eased in better, rotating with kulu and maddison.

I think he’s adjusted to the physicality fine. He does well off the ball defensively and against Newcastle he was up against Thiaw who’s 6’4 and was able to bring the ball down when it was in the air, control it and move it on.

For now my preference would be to bench him and use him as an impact sub in games. I'd rather see Bergval or Sarr start in midfield and be solid and I'd have a preference for Odobert starting on the left wing. If Odobert is injured then I'd start Simons on the left wing against Chelsea.

I just think we need to play him into form a bit. He's not doing enough to warrant a starting place atm. He's physically very weak and an easy player to bully. Atleast Sarr and Bergval will get stuck in and be hard to play against. Simons will come good but right now he needs to be taken out of the firing line

Eze has actually been pretty good for them and there's the promise he will definitely get better as time goes on, I'm not sure where you're getting that he's been shit? so why would their be criticism from the media?

Simons isn't getting pelters because he's not English, he's getting them because he's not been good and looks far off the level.

We’ve had so many players that have played for us and in the first season we write them off and then they end up being huge successes . Let’s see , he’s still a kid but at £50m we have a right to expect more but im certainly not going to say he’s the next Bryan Gil yet .

He does need taking out against Chelsea because if we don't win he'll be scapegoated regardless of his performance (unless he bagged a couple)

The trouble is we've had a lot more who are the opposite.

For me the big issue is that we have all our hopes pinned on him as we have not sufficiently bolstered the team. Without him we're essentially the same team that finished 17th
