Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I agree that he does not look SO EXTREMELY lightweight anymore.

But he still gets routinely pushed off the ball with ease. And he does not have the acceleration to get out of the harms way in either CL nor in the EPL.

Sure, it would be whole different story if he would have prime Wanyama and prime Dembele behind him in midfield (that would control the tempo and provide physical bite) with prime and prime Kane ahead that would make perfectly timed runs behind. In that framework he could play one-touch-passing football - tempo would be controlled by others. But right now we do not have any of those things. And unfortunately that also means we cannot carry a player with physicality of 14 yo girl.

Basically - he has adjusted, but not to even 50% to the level that would really be needed.
Depends on the game and circumstances. He’s not slower or faster than Maddison

He can contribute a lot more than he has since Tudor arrived

Well to me it is difficult to compare Maddison and Xavi pace alone. Might not be faster.
But it is clear that one can produce goals and assists and other cannot.

At his best Xavi was maybe producing 1/3 of needed level. Either it is 1/3 or 1/10th - both are tragically short of what is needed.

Was fuming with him at times today but then they showed a close up of him and he looked so lost and bereft of confidence my heart went out to him. Hopefully the point today can gee him up a bit and he usually plays well in the CL so I'd start him against atletico and see how he gets on.

In a perfect world, survival and a good recovery from Maddison; then he'll have time to grow next season without the expectation of being our main man.... Back in Europe the season after with 2 good quality CAMs at our disposal.

He is doing as well as Wirz who cost twice as much

Hopefully we stay up, settle down as a club and employ a new manager who advocates a more progressive style of football and then players like Simons will have a better chance to thrive.

Hard to assess. Look at Wirtz. Hardly set the place on fire.

Then look at the bar of previous. De Bruyne the leader, followed by the likes of Eriksem etc. Madisson in the group below.

Our current situation befuddleds the mind and makes it harder to judge.

In a competitive squad who knows. As the expectant creator in his first season with us it's been too much for Simons. No doubt about that.

Fairer/better to judge at the end of next season. Could go either way is my view.

Better than all but Hackney I have seen in the Championship, but we need PL quality.

Haven't see much of it from him all season personally.
In fairness he was getting stuck in at the start of the season but just seems a bit lost now. Probably best atm that he's on the bench but hoping he can get some confidence back which is why i'd start him against atletico. Hoping we can avoid defeat in that much to get a bit more momentum even if we do go out of the competition.

Indeed , take away the price tag and the profile and to be honest, he looks kinda shit

Alas the team has been extremely poor this season, unable to string together a basic attacking pattern so who knows how he'd perform in a better side. But for now he isn't the guy to drag people up to his standards, or turn a game off his own back

Have in some games.... Just think he struggles to impose himself sometimes. Not entirely suprising considering the whole team has been dysfunctional and negative since he arrived.

We'll know more next season.
We wont if we get relegated and he leaves. Hopefully, the international break away with holland will do him some good and he can play a part for us this season.

If you're ignoring his pricetag; then why should he be expected to do that? .......He's 22 and physically outmatched a lot of the time.
