Ex-Spurs Player Kyle Walker

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Is this Pereira chap better than Walker? If so, why haven't City spent less than half the fee on him instead?
I reckon Poch must support the sale of KW, but I do hope the transfer money is set aside for squad improvements rather than sunk into the new stadium. To be going into next season with only KWP as back up would be a terribly risky strategy. And whoever we sign has to be ready to hit the ground running a la Wanyama, rather than Sissoko or Janssen. Interesting (if a little worrying) time.

The single one worst thing about this transfer is the speculation it will create around the rest of the squad.

For once, just this once, I'd preferred to have us make the deal on deadline day.

People who like to say 'trust in Poch' should actually try trusting him. We've no idea what he's seen in Walker. He could be losing his pace for all we know, and there isn't much else to his game.

Those who claim to know, say that his fitness has been dropping since the first half of the season, with him refusing to accept that it was the case (and Poch etc. suggesting otherwise). Possibly similar to what caused the Andros kick off.

Sheffield united get a percentage don't they?

10% of profit over £5m I think, which would be approx £5m

2nd most expensive player in the World this summer

Must make you feel so proud

If our defenders have to go to City, I'd rather the Sheiks be dry fisted for £50m than pick them up for free/pittance like them down the road.

In theory you're right, but we are not as big a club as Citeh at the moment. So we have to be pragmatic. It's what we've done over the last 15 years trying to close the gap on the biggest teams and it has worked. The difference now to a few years back is that the player leaving our team for a world record at his position, is not our best player. Not even our second best player. Hell, he's probably not even in our top five or six best players. And we have a very capable backup for him already who has proven he can do the job. We have to balance not strengthening a rival and weakening ourselves with trying to become a bigger club. that's done by making profit and reinvesting. We're making a huge profit on Walker. And above all else there is the human aspect of things - Kyle presumably wants to go, and when a player wants to go what use is it trying to stand in the way? Especially when Poch's best work is done by achieving a good team togetherness.

Maybe Kyle Walker Peters is a better player. We will have to see. Will be shit though when we see walker turning out for that mob.

Swings and roundabouts. To be fair to him he hung around when we were a shower of shit, managers coming and going – then Poch made him a decent defender.

I can't imagine he found out about wages whilst on England duty, we know certain clubs pay obscene money, so do all the players, they probably know more about it than us!

The realisation must have set in that his big payday was potentially passing him by. He has two years left at the top and needs to maximise his earnings. It's not for us to say he already earns lots of money, he should try and earn a big wedge if it makes a difference to his and his families life, I would.

So, sure I have a bitter taste as for all the 'we're on the rise' talk it knocks us back down a level... Poch did say however nobody in his plans would be sold so the only thing I hold onto is he was surplus and that's why tripper got lots of time at the end of last season. I understand lots of people aren't big fans of Tripps but I love what he brings to the team in the way of delivery and with Toby and Jan covering it's a formation that I feel will pay dividends.

Will we bring in another couple of big names? I'm not so sure but I like these youngsters we're linked with, we'll get more loyalty from someone rising with the club than some big time Charlie.

Going home shortly, on the journey I will feel a little empty i'm sure but nothing compared to the sick feeling of seeing Berba @ Old Trafford talking to Fergie.

Windows are small and we didn't have the depth last year to compete in both the Champions League and the EPL. Not only can we ill afford to lose starters and not obtain like for like replacements, we need more competitive backups in a lot of areas.

Transfers are hit and miss, but the risk has to be taken. The money has to be spent or we are telegraphing to the rest of the team that we are comfortable with trophy-less top 4 seasons. That's just not good enough to keep the quality of players we have.

Never happy when a starting player is sold to a domestic rival, but this is far from the sales of Berba, Carrick, Modric and Bale. Walker is not on that level (but he is probably the best RB/RWB in the league) and the fee is nice to look at. .
Fucking he'll man. When we sold those 4 players people on here tried to justify it by saying we could never expect to keep players of that calibre. And if we sell players, the next level down as you put it, we have to accept that too !!!!!
So what players can we expect to keep long term. It's pathetic.
As for " the fee is nice to look at"
Only on a Spurs forum would we find such garbage

Poch, who has shown time and time again that he's fantastic at coaching fullbacks, has gotten the best out of Walker - to the point where he's worth £50m.

I have zero conviction that Pep will coach him anywhere near as well as Poch has, and believe that Walker will have regressed noticeably this time next year.

Edit: if Pereira comes in and is actually able to cross the ball, I think we'll have made an upgrade.

Naive not to think it IMO and losing our last 3 FA Cup Semi's wasn't down to selling players, nor losing our last two finals we have reached.

Can you imagine this team with Bale and Modric? Players like that are irreplaceable. We can't sell our best players and ever hope to compete regularly with the top teams. It has to stop.

Walker had a falling out. It happens. If we follow it up by losing any players like Alli, Eriksen, Kane, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, etc. over the next few seasons it's going to start an exodus.

£50M is ridiculous money. Completely mental. But that's the market at the moment...

We need to be looking at the same type of player again as we did when he came. Young, talented, willing to work - we've got a lot to offer that kind of player. A Sessegnon type of player.

Personally im disappointed hes gone but for the fee, the fact he actually wasnt first choice by the end of last season (although how much of that was due to getting his turned) and his desire to move back further north i cant really say its a bad deal for us.

I've heard Pereira being referred to as the Portuguese Trippier.

What we want is someone who has got the desire to fight for a first XI place, not necessarily the finished article. Like, actually fight for it. Davies was bought for £10M as the nailed-on left back. Step up Danny Rose, boom. Both better players for it.

Also, just bear in mind how much Rudiger cost Chelsea, and how much we've got for Walker. 2/3 of the price for a full German international. So if we DO go for the finished article then we can still spend a decent wedge and have a LOT left over.

Is Alderweireld better than Otamendi? If so, why didn't City spend less than half the fee on him instead?

Maybe Guardiola and Man City have seen a lot more of Walker, prefers a player who knows the league, is happy living in this country, is less of a gamble and fills their English quota?

I'm confident in whoever Pochettino brings in to play right back and if he thinks Pereira is capable of coming in to do a job, we should all back him and support him.
