It is an interesting time. The extraordinary amount of money coming into the league has, ironically, made it more difficult to buy success. Unless you are going to pay 75 million plus, you are not going to get a World class player. Even that is not a guarantee. In fact, proven world beaters are, at this moment, too expensive for anyone to buy, even abroad. Someone might pay 150 million plus, maybe PSG, but as of yet that has not happened. Most of these signings are young players with massive potential. Mbappe, for example, at £100 million? Good player with unbelievable potential but absurd price.

Look at our Revenues compared to the other top six and that shows why we lag (have to lag) in wages. I cant believe we get our players to sign long term contracts, Trippier just signed up for 70K apparently the same as Linguard.
It's attitude.

If a player wants to be paid £300k a week, well he's not our type. He'll just go somewhere else in a year when he's offered £500k.

We play a system. The formation and system are more importatn than individuals.

Trips - £70k a week gives him with no pay rises ever again £22m gross before he maybe has to play Chyampionship or lower (presumably he's already got a bit salted away too). If we had to pay him £150k a week, it would be £44m gross. How much do you actually need? How many cars do you need to buy, how many yachts?

With Poch we are fortunate to have a great coach who can improve young players and make them stars. If we can't sell someone we want on:

vision
mission
journey
being part of something great
self improvement
best training facilities in the country

then they are not for us.

5 years with us will still give someone like Barkley (for instance) £20m gross at least. If he wants to go somewhere else for £30m, then again, not for us.

As the agents quoted said, we do not really have a problem with our wage structure.

Key thing is to keep Poch happy. At some stage the REALLY big Euro teams will come calling. Presume we have a succession plan in place that has more to it than "get Pleat in till the end of the season then announce the brilliant Santini"

Of course success can still be bought. The English transfer market has just changed a bit, that's all. Transfer fee and wages are reflecting this as clubs and agents push to discover the new market limits.

People have gotten smarter and realized paying £70million for a guy with a couple of good years left is a bad idea. So they start forward paying on potential. Things have gotten absurd for that as well. There may be an adjustment by next summer, but I have my doubts.

Come on Nutter-Naylor Nutter-Naylor , I know you might have been rushing to get the first comment in... but "exiting prospects"?!

Please explain how that article dispels any myths and what myths those are. Just because it lines up with your petty agenda - doesn't make it right

Firstly, despite your narcissism telling you otherwise, you don't have a right to demand an explanation to everything. It makes you look simple (also makes you look like a nob when you accuse people of being "petty" when you've trademarked it).

Secondly, if you bothered to read the article, you'd have noticed the entire section titled "Do Spurs need to break wage structure?". You might have to ask your carer to read it to you, though, as you clearly rely on basic things being explained to you on a constant basis.

Maybe we should change our wage structure then to reflect our financial and champions league status. We would then be a more attractive option for the best players to consider. It's used as an excuse all the time if we're honest. I mean, Jermain Defoe at Bournmouth earns more than Harry Kane at Spurs. Think about it
That was a media lie jermain Defoe earns £65k a week there top earner , Kane signed a new contract recently £110k .
