Just still don't believe Sessegnon will move any time soon.

He's 17 and on a contract even Fulham can increase to keep him happy. There's no buyout, and he's on the books until summer 2020. If he wants to up his wage, they'll be requiring him to extend that commitment to give them leverage - same as we do.

Further, he's in the middle of transitioning from a lower valued position to one of the highest valued positions on the pitch. Selling before that transition is cemented would be short-sighted - especially given the rate of inflation currently in the transfer market.

Lastly, he's their leading goal scorer - and at 17 likely to keep getting better. His talent puts them in the mix for promotion. That's a prize that if they can make it stick is worth many more millions than any single transfer.

I will honestly be shocked to see him leave Fulham any time before he's 20 (just about the time he could be showing out at the Euro), for many more millions (at least double) than the £20-30M that has been thrown around here after having helped Fulham return to the PL.

It absolutely makes no sense for Fulham to sell now, would be a ridiculously short-sighted on their part. Would be like us selling Bale to United 2 seasons before he became Madrid material. I get that WE want him. But a transfer takes 3 parties to complete.
 
Problem with Malcom already having a high price is that you're not always guaranteed that the player fulfills his potential. Hopefully if we get him though he gets his head down when needed and works hard.

The thing is we are in a different position now to what we were before when we had one or two good players on our books. We have 3/4s of our squad in place and need to add quality to not only get the best out of the current team but keep them as well. It's just as much about keeping the nucleus happy they can fulfill their dreams with us as it is adding to it and actually going for it. I fully hope/ expect us to identify class and go for it. No more Nkoudous or Njies please, I want the Carrascos of this world playing for my beautiful, historic club.

Completely different situation. Gareth Bale was 24, not 17. Gareth Bale had been transitioned from a fullback to an attacking winger/mid/striker for multiple full seasons, not a couple of months. Gareth Bale had won PFA player of the year, FWA player of the year, Premier League player of the year, and was included in the World XI - he had completely maxed his value, Sessegnon has barely scratched the surface of his. Bale, due to his development, had signed multiple contract extensions previously and reached a point where Spurs could realistically no longer keep him within the financial budget of the club.

The whole "Bale forced a move" narrative is tired and untrue. Spurs were more than happy to sell him to Madrid at a world record fee, and there was no fight to try and retain him. The transfer dragged out over particulars and how much exactly Madrid would pay and when. He didn't play during this period because neither side wanted to risk an injury.

To compare Madrid's ability to sign Bale in 2013 to our ability to sign Sessegnon today is, frankly, laughable.
