Ex-Spurs Player Toby Alderweireld

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

its all relative though isn't it - you are not looking for £60,000 a week more, you are looking for parity to others who are at your level. The vast majority of players would be happy with £800 p/w if that's all that was in the game and everyone else is getting similar.

In every other walk of life market forces rule, he has no real ties to the club so the same applies here.
It is silly when people compare it to themselves & say if it were me I'd be happy with 10k a month.

Can I just say fantastic post this is what this forum should be like rather then the child like arguments I’ve seen on this thread.

I agree with your points and like I said before I can see how far we have come as a club over the years. I’m only 23 years old and have supported spurs for 14 of those years properly, so I can just about remember us being truly fucking shit, so I fully appreciate how much we have improved and how much we seem to want to improve.

But I feel I need to clarify the Lewis comment. I’m not advocating him making us like City with him pumping the cash in the artificially elevate us.

I was just mentioning that if it comes to it I see no reason why he shouldn’t invest enough to keep our best players on improved contracts whilst we wait for the benefits of the new stadium NFL deal and sponsorships to beat full fruit. Meaning he would then never have to do so again.

And the reason we have kept everyone is due to Poch, he’s got them all bought into his vision of what we can become as a side if they all stick together. Just a worry if we lose him it starts a domino effect
You are actually not far off though. He's not stumped up any cash (as I said before this simply doesn't happen in business) but he has acted as a financial guarantor to the banks that we have borrowed money from to get the stadium built without a Naming rights partner to finance it from the get go. I'm not patting him on the back BTW, I expect such things from our owners. I'm also hugely cautious at dishing out too many complements to our owners at this stage as there are so many ways we can be fucked by him/them should he wish to sell (it's a corporate minefield webb of companies that have been set-up at Tottenham that could all the set up as a means of extracting money out of the club, so need to see how things pan out over the next few years before the Champagne corks let fly).

So, the way that things should be is that we need to increase our revenue to compete, they only meaningful way to do this was to build a stadium to drive those revenues. This is what is being done, this is sustainable and it's for the long term future of the club. All this could have been done 10 years ago when our average league position was something like 11th, but I bet us fans would be just as excited as we are today about what the future might be ahead for us. Think back to West Ham fans, this was their dream too and they believed it. The difference is today we happen to be one of the best sides in Europe, this year we will find out just how good. Very few players will want the leave a team that is as good as ours, in fact we can attract some of the best players to us, in fact players are choosing to join us over Chavs, Woolwich and Liverpool, this hasn't been the case for at least 20yrs.

I completely agree Poch is the key and really the only real worry we should have as supporters but even here I have supreme confidence that Poch is a man of his word, I think he will at least see out his contract. Everything about him, pre-Spurs and whilst he has been here with his actions and ethos at least support my confidence. I also get the feeling Spurs also see this too, they wouldn't have offered him a new deal, he's been given the keys to the football side of things and he's our longest serving manager for 30 odd years. It's clear to me that he's worth a multi-million pound package, far more so than any individual player.

A joke, huh? So, you get banned from this site for racism and either seek or else are compelled by your workplace to undergo a period of rehabilitation. Then, shortly after having your posting privileges here restored, you joke about how you would like to socialise with what police believe is one of Britain's most prolific child sex offenders. I imagine you'd have pissed yourself laughing if I'd suggested I join you and that we should bring Barry Bennell along, eh?

I'm 48, so probably not what you think I am, but I'd rather be think like a snowflake than have your demons whizzing around inside my head.
Oh for god sake man come on. Yes I seeked and was sent on anti racism courses over a long period of time , which I’m sorry that I had to go on one but I did and feel fully rehabilitated. But I will not apologise for having a sense of humour however dark it is. And yes if you had suggested bringing Barry Bennell along I would have laughed. As I did when I read your post

Refusing to pay for one of the best CB is insane. This is astonishing. I know Levy is smart with money and money tied up in the stadium but if he’s not willing to pay for a star then this team will implode. We have so many players that should be getting paid this. Just sad reading these reports.

Who is a better left back in the pl than rose ?

Davies, Mendy (he's hurt), Alonso, Monreal.. don't know about other teams

Levy brought us to where we are now. I trust him just like i trust Poch.

Does anyone believe Poch when he a says doesn't got involved in negotiations? Even if it's Levy on the phone saying "He's breaking our balls, how important is he to your team?".

Exactly. Very inexperienced and still settling in. How good he has been considering this is extraordinary, but also highlights how mad it is to expect him to match the level of one of the best centre halves in world football.

He's already partnered with one of the best centre backs in world football. I'm sure he'll do just fine

The manager will have a major say in who stays and who goes,Levy knows what side is bread is buttered Poch hasn't done much wrong since he's been in charge,OK Sissoko aside things have gone a lot better than anyone expected and that's down to the chairman and the manager working together and long may it continue and if one or the other makes a decision and its agreed and doesn't fuck up the team playing the way they play then fine make the decisions....

Him and Jezuz will definitely be involved, just easier to say he doesn't get involved or comment on rumours all the time.
Too be fair, we don't know what he is asking for, I really hope we don't lose him but I totally understand that we can't compete with wages from other teams. If we give him 200k a week, Jan, Erickson, All and Kane all want that... we pay about what we should in wages compared to our income apparently, hopefully with the new stadium, NFL games, probable rebranding of the stadium and constantly getting into the champions league will change that soon.

We are not in the new stadium though, you can't spend money you haven't generated yet.

You also ignore that we are competing currently, despite being massively down on income compared with our direct rivals. And just to be clear, the new stadium revenue will not see us compete financially with Man U and City, they are light years ahead of us now and even with the new stadium's new revenue streams churning away at full tilt we will still be miles off these two clubs. Man U have the highest revenue in World football and City is the most valuable football club in the World, both of these clubs will only get bigger and will pull away from us not us, we will not be getting closer to them. We will be closing the revenue gap on the other clubs though.

We are NOT being held back for fear of football going bust. We pay the 6th highest wages in the PL because we have the 6th highest revenue it really is as simple as that. Our revenues are rising (Doubled our shirt sponsor value, Wembley should see us bag an additional £1m per game than old WHL, Doubled our shirt deal with Nike, probably have a sleeve sponsor soon, Stadium Naming rights partner (maybe this revenue will allow us to service the debt??). "Time we don't seem to have" I don't understand what you mean by this, don't you think we are at the beginning of something, rather than the end of something??
As you say we are not in the new stadium yet, our revenues are rising. Why would Levy make a final offer at this stage of the season. Does not make sense. Different matter at the end of the season.

I hope that is true & more people stop paying to watch it all. & It isn't 20% of sky customers have gone to BT instead.
I am with BT & used to pay about £15 extra for sky sports main event & football channels. But this season its up to £27.50 & I thought sod that. Time for the peoples football revolution! Lets make a stand!
I went to Virgin a few years ago and got BT for free and don't have sky anymore apart from sky sports. Can't say I miss it that much.
Helped by BT's really good EL & CL coverage

There was a club before him and there will be a club after him.

I look forward to seeing Foyth and Sanchez develop.
Thats not the fucking point though is it. We are moving to a huge capacity new stadium (i know), where our fans will be asked to pay hugely expensive ticket prices. We deserve to see our best players playing for our club. Not sold to another club that appreciates his true value.

Does anyone else think this is just the usual bollox sprouted by the media, along with the likes of Kane , dele and eriksen all to be sold before the year is out?
I think negotiations will have been put on hold until we know where we stand re CL and the stadium being ready, once this is confirmed I believe contract negotiations will start!
So let’s all chill, Toby is the best CB in Europe, Poch and levy know that! He will see out his career at spurs!

(I reserve the right to melt if any of the above proves to be incorrect come the summer)
