Transfers Summer 2018 transfer window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Our first priority has to be in central midfield. We need to spend a lot in that area
Agreed. We need 2 players in I reckon. Dembélé might be off and even if he stays he is getting on in age and needs the cotton wool treatment. And Winks and Wanyama have lingering injuries that means that they also require cotton wooling until they are 100% back. Having a central midfield where only Dier and Sissoko are 100% fit is not ideal

We have onomah too and I hope he is given some opportunity at CM in pre-season. I agree with 2 signings though. Kovacic would be nice and someone else. I'd have no issue with us spending 80m+ in that area. Dembele and sissoko are likely to be gone this summer so heavy reinforcements are a necessity.

I could see Josh leave tbh. At least on another loan. He hasn't exactly impressed at Villa so he could do with another loan to get some consistent playing time.

How do you know this?

Then there's the small matter of the almost £600,000 a week he earns currently...
I think it's been well documented and pretty much accepted as being accurate. I could find various links from a number of sources but fuck it you can either accept it or rubbish it as you please..
Even if your 600k is is accurate, which I doubt, it's unlikely he'll earn that whoever he moves to next. But at the end of the day we are a filthy rich football club competing at the top end of the richest league in world football. With CL football to offer and its extra revenue on top. If there is a will to brink back Bale, there is a way. For the fans and the team, if not for the business model

Alledgedly, if Real Madrid have an offer on Bale, contractualy they have to offer him to us at the same price as the other offer. So if Man U offer £120 million for him, el presidente rings Levy and says, he's yours for £120 million (and wages you can't pay).

Whenever you see the wages quoted for Spanish players, the figure is ALWAYS after tax. So yes, he's earning something like that, between £500,000 a week and £700,000. Marca had it at €18 million a year (you don't normally see football wages expressed weekly) which is €346,000, or £303,000 at the current exchange rate. The highest tax rate in in Madrid is 45%, so you get the picture.

As for the first refusal, you're right, apologies.

This from the leaked contract when we sold him...

"Real Madrid and the player hereby grant to Tottenham from the date hereof until June 30, 2019 an option to match any offer received from a Premier League club for the registration of the player.

"Real Madrid shall notify Tottenham the terms of any offer that it finds acceptable (a 'Third Party Offer'), and Tottenham shall thereafter have a period of 72 hours after receipt of such notification to offer to match all the terms contained in the offer to Real Madrid under the Third Party Offer.

"In the event that Tottenham does match the Third Party Offer, Real Madrid shall be required to accept Tottenham's offer in preference to any other offers received (including any higher offers received following Real Madrid's receipt of the Third Party Offer) and transfer the player as soon as is possible in the first available FA Registration Period to Tottenham pursuant to a Transfer Agreement acceptable to Tottenham in its sole discretion."

according to some leaks, we had the right to match any bid that Madrid accepted (I think we have 72 hours to decide), madrid have to inform us of any accepted bid

of course, in a world where the world record transfer fee is what,250- 300 million, i would be surprised if a 28 year old Bale goes for less than 150-200 million

I think you are way oversimplifying the market situation.
It is not like market has unlimited number of participants who would buy for such amounts.

In real life there are max of 5 clubs paying such money.
In Germany 0 - even though Bayern most likely could pay it, they don't. Not their stategy.
In Italy 0 - no team just could not afford based on their income levels.
In Spain - 2 but in this context as one is the seller - just 1.
In England - Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea - people could argue that most likely Liverpool and Woolwich could pay it as well, but I personally just do not see them paying 150+ mil seeing their current situation, recent transfers etc.
In Fracne - 1 - crazy rich PSG.

So this is VERY limited market, without any doubt.
Now I'd take step forward and ask -
- could PSG stay afloat regarding FFP given that they have to pay out 150 mil for Mbappe? Do they need Bale type of player? To me answers to both are "no"
- is Bale kind of player that interests Barca? Most likely not.
- is Bale Pep kind of player? I would not say he is.

Now the question already boils down if two very rich league rivals of ManU and Chelsea want the player who has proven them in the league that they play in? So not that "market price for this and that" but rather question of two groups of decision makers...

We have first refusal, Bill. There's no way Levy would(should) pass up this opportunity to finally give something back to our fans. He knows we deserve this. He will know seeing Bale in a united shirt would be the ultimate betrayal on his behalf.
Lets return to our status as a club that buys top players rather than just sells them.
Bale may not be a great signing for the business, but hed be a fantwastic signing for the team, he's a winner, and an amazing signing for our success starved supporters.

You need to understand what 'first refusal' means before just blindly posting ...

Bale is not a slave, he cannot be bought and sold at the whim of football club chairmen (or John Thomas) without his consent, we've moved on since 1865.

When a club has a 'first refusal' clause in a contract it means that the selling club, in this case Real Madrid must make Spurs aware of any offer on that player and all the terms and conditions within that offer ... Spurs then have a limited period to match or better the offer ... this gives Spurs a significant advantage, we know what the other side are offering, so we can match or beat it, but it's no guarantee ...

As I said Bale is not a slave, he can only be transferred anywhere with his agreement ... RM and Spurs can agree anything they want, but if Bale refuses to sign for us then that will mean feck all ...

I'm sure JT will be the first to scream 'no commitment' 'betrayal' 'ENIC and Levy are traitors' if this summer Bale signs for someone else, it's JT's style after all, but the fact is 'first refusal' guarantees us nothing. Ultimately only Bale will decide where Bale ends up, we will probably never know for sure (unless of course you believe the Sun) which clubs were prepared to offer what .....

He may well be a fantwastic signing for us, but that's only if he wants to be .....

I'm thinking we get 1 very good signing in to replace Dembele. Onomah can compete with Winks during the fall for the 5th spot behind NewGuy, Dier, and Vic. I guess Sissoko is in there for now too...

Kovacic would be great. Got played a lot though towards the end of the season.
As long as M-Savic hasn't been bought, I'd hope we look at making him a new club record signing.
Docoure could do very well for us too, although the goons link bothers me a bit.

So could Bale do us a solid? If he wanted to come back to us could he say "no" to every other club to force a move through to us? I mean Just because Leeds offer him £200m doesn't mean he'll want to go there however much RM want the cash. If he says yes to us and the payment terms... for arguments sake £50m and £200k per week, if Real want him off their books could it force a move through? I'm not saying it's likely but is it possible?
