Transfers January 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Whatever is the point of us staking the farm on building The Best Stadium In The World© if we're not striving to be one of the best clubs in the world?

Strikes me that your ambition doesn't stretch much beyond being a higher class of feeder club.
But when we've paid off the stadium in 25 years time, Bill, and still won fuck all, then we'll be in a position to attract better players.

As the one person on here who doesnt think Eriksen is consistent enough to be called world class, Im pretty ok with it. I genuinely believe that the "Eriksen plays poor, Spurs play poor" thing is a myth.

Wonderful player on his day, and his day is pretty often these last few weeks

But if Im honest, he underwhelmed as much as the next man for the first months of the season before his injury, and has had some very poor games down the years.
He'll go with my respect though unless he starts acting the tosser, which I just dont think he will.
Fair play, club rolls on.

I don't think we particularly rely on any one player.

In total without Eriksen since Pochettino took over:

P: 33
W: 21
D: 8
L: 4
Scored: 67
Conceded: 28

None of those 4 games came in the league by the way. One in the League Cup away at Anfield when we rested most of our team. Two in the Europa League, one of which was against Besiktas when we had already qualified and the other against Dortmund when we decided we wanted to chase Leicester as opposed to compete and Barcelona at Wembley this season which was always going to be a tough ask.

A bit like when someone said we need a back up striker only to then be told that we've barely lost a game when Kane doesn't play including a 1-3 smashing of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for the first time in 25 years.

some feedback on transfers:

Mauricio Pochettino - Purchased players

Every Spurs transfer deal rated during Pochettino's reign as manager

“In football you always need to think you can improve and you need to try to improve your squad."

“We wanted to sign people [in the summer]. But the circumstances arrived, and it’s the best start in the Premier League for Tottenham. Maybe it’s a coincidence, or maybe it’s because we are geniuses. But in January we are going to try to sign players.

“Today we can say ‘well done’ but if you ask me if I’m happy, yes I’m happy but I think you cannot play with destiny, you need to build the team properly. We need as a club in January to try to refresh the squad to move the club on."

I genuinely pity you, Craig

Milner is not worth it.

Age can and does often hit players suddenly rather than gradually. He hasn't slowed down too much yet but when he turns 34 it wouldn't be shocking if he lost that engine.

At 29 or 30 years old I would have been all over it but now no. Let's find someone more long term.

Liverpool bought Salah the summer before they lost Coutinho, for a club record fee, most of what they eventually received for the outgoing player. Spurs bought literally nobody.

Can you imagine our fanbase if we sold Eriksen 6 days into the January transfer window and we were sitting in 4th place, 18 points off top.

They've played a blinder there

january needs to see player(s) arrive or this summer could be a mare.

come august 2019 we'll most likely be without alderweireld, dembele, eriksen. that's three first team players, although we've been without dembele most of this season i guess. god i wish he was still in his twenties!

there's the unplayed: vorm, n'koudou, janssen, and the improvables: aurier, davies - although he'll be moved to left centre back i reckon, moura, llorente...

lloris, gascoigne-negro (vorm)
walker-peters, trippier (aurier)
rose (davies)
sanchez, foyth (alderweireld)
vertonghen
dier, wanyama
winks (dembele)
dele, lamela, son (eriksen, moura, n'koudou)
kane (llorente, janssen)

that's some hardcore potential turnover lol!
