Should he have done what he did - no.
Do I understand why he did it - most definitely.
I would have done the same in his shoes, but would expect some sort of comeback.
What gets me is how the person who starts a situation gets punished less than the one who retaliates, happens all the time.

Amen.... Such a frustrating trend in this world.

Just heard a very valid point on Fighting Talk on 5 live. At what point during climbing over all those seats did the spontaneity wear off and Dier start thinking 'God, there's loads to go, I can't stop now'

YES he is and so are YOU!

It's not "just Twitter" though is it Blakey!? Top award winning jorno's are writing about it. It's become bigger than a football incident because it's being used to champion the vile abusive fan that we've all heard at football matches (this also includes racist incidents too, not saying this is one of them, but the lad that uploaded the 1st vid said it was), many are also using it as a wider metaphor to reflect the rise of the vile abusive slagging that's become prevalent in society today via confrontational politics.

You're of course welcome to your opinion but just like Andersen you have failed to grasp the mood and sentiment around it. To take a different view is fine but it does show that you are out of touch with the sentiment.

I’m not failing to grasp anything, or out of touch with it, I’m just nonplussed by it.

He didn’t dive in to save his brother from getting a kick-in from a bunch of hells angels, he waded into verbal hand bags between his brother and some upper-middle class VIP and did some pointing and shouting.

You mention racism, but just look at the reaction to Rudiger on here and and from our fans. He was a cunt apparently. Dier’s a hero.

Zeitgeist is a fickle thing for football fans.

He's not though is he. All Dier was ever going to do was add to the fucking handbags of some punter shouting abuse being handbagged by his brother who no doubt shouted abuse back at him, whilst stewards and other punters generally threw their hand bags in between them to make sure nothing happened.

So Dier potentially pissed away his place in the team for a big chunk of what's already been an injury ravaged season, just when he was starting to actually look like he might be fucking useful, just to throw his hand bag into the ring to keep his brothers, and a couple of other punters ands stewards hand bag's company.

Yay. Hero.

I'm sure twitter, our fans, some media opinions wishing to appear "right on" will applaud Dier (though not sure they would if it was a less wholesome fella) but all I can think is "what a fucking twat".

Everyone saying "I'D DO THE SAME FOR MY BROTHER" is ignoring the fact that we all probably would, in normal circumstances, but maybe if we were 5m a year footballers, a job that comes with a bit of social responsibility, at an event with TV cameras everywhere, in a situation that was only ever going to be a hand bag slag fest at best anyway, and doing it could have serious ramifications for my job and the team, might actually have the common sense to think, hmmm....maybe I'll just keep my hand bag dry on this one?

I don't really give a fuck, the bloke was a dick, it's Dier, it's us right now, it was very entertaining, but I didn't really watch it and think "what a fucking hero" either.
It looks like what you're saying is people care more about money than protecting their love ones, that's a rather sad indictment of people today.

But if you're a 5M footballer, you know you aren't going to get sacked anyway. I don't think there will be any serious ramifications for Dier. The most I think he will get is a fine and a short ban.

And if Eriksen done the same (I know LOL right)
You’d have probably wanked him off

You are completely at odds with the sentiment of the reaction of what followed.

The other stuff you bring up has nothing to do with the sentiment felt by the vast majority of the footballing community, made up of and including ex-pros, current pros, award-winning journalists, ex-managers, current managers, rival fans and Spurs fans alike.

It's not about comparing anything to anything else, the only person doing that is you. What is getting brought up is it's a stand against the angst and seething anger that some people bring into a stadium, which prevails in the stands around the world right now, something that's never out of earshot and so often ruins a lot of normal fans football pleasure having to listen to it. The antidote to that was Dier.

The feeling and sentiment is that Dier did what the overwhelming majority would have like to have done themselves. People are really liking what he did.

But you crack on with your disapproval, this is fine to do that but it puts you at odds with the sentiment of the many. You can't argue against that surely? Even on here in this microcosm of a thread, your view is in the minority, ergo you are out of step with what others are feeling.

Blakey specialises in 'what-about-Sissoko'-ism.

I would PAY GOOD MONEY to watch you hurdling those seats.

Again, you are confusing disapproval for disinterest.

I don’t think Dier should be tarred and feathered but I don’t think he’s a hero either.

What is the “football family” saying or expecting, it wants fans not to get emotional about football? Or it wants them to praise its idols but not criticise them?

This will change fuck all. Because Dier did fuck all. If he’d Kung fu kicked some abusive twat like Evra or Cantona did, it still would change fuck all.

So forgive me if I don’t catch “football community” fever about it.

So just embrace the fact that you are at odds with the overwhelming majority on this then! Why can't you do that? Why are you fighting against that? I'm not, nor have I been arguing anything else other than this point.

Things are prone to going beyond mere criticism these days....

We see it on here more and more: "I hate X; he's a cunt"....

It's simply unecessary.

Yeah, but Eric Dier hurdling seats to call some twat a twat isn’t going to change that.

I’m not condoning people behaving like twats, I’m not outraged by what Dier did, I’m just not seeing Dier’s actions as very heroic either.

It was just a bit of fucking panto.

....And I'm just responding to the question you posed. :)

I didn't question your take on any social impact it's likely to have.

It was just a bit of fucking panto.

I'm pretty non-plussed by it all, myself....

He has a good steely quality and doesn’t seem to become unnerved by his own errors the way Toby and Davidson do. Even when he made a mistake in the 2nd half he got back and made a match-saving tackle. For sure he has a future with us after his performances in the last weeks, only thing we need to do is find a clear structure for the team, which will probably have to wait until the summer.

José's persistence on him looks to be finally paying off. Still don't know if José prefers him more at CB or at CDM, but he's become better and better with every game passing. Makes me think I was right when I thought that he had fitness problems, and that I was wrong when I thought that his legs were totally gone and that he wouldn't be able to fix them.
