I don't think the particular model went away because levy/ENIC are big avcocates of that set up.
I think it's a case of we haven't had the need to sell for a while,
This combined with the fact that as we got more successful/competitive at the top. Results became more important to keep us up there so we held on to players instead of selling them on. And the further up the table you are, the harder it becomes for youth prospects to be bedded in.

ENIC in v ENIC out is the most tiring argument. There is no end to it. Because both sides are kinda right.

Levy is a big reason for the club's progression. But his ways also hold us back in some instances.

Arguing in circles about it is useless.

Leicester have one of the biggest analytics recruitment departments just like Liverpool. No coincidence they keep buying good players.
This is something that enrages me - all that money spent on the new training ground and stadium, but zero indication we're interested in overhauling our (let's be perfectly honest here) 'patchy' recruiting department.

It can't be that expensive to do. Hell, it probably pays for itself after one successful player purchase and flip for profit from a random european league. It's bizarre. Like Levy thinks we should have all the real estate to become 'elite' yet neglect to do everything in his power regarding our playing staff.

Chelsea’s last couple windows....

2019/20 player sales of £141.5million (Hazard + others) - 2019/20 spending of £40.5million (Kovacic) = 101million
then + 2020/21 player sales (Morata + Pasalic) of £66million = 167million.

Ziyech £36m, Werner £48m, Chilwell £50m and Havertz £80m = £214million, minus the £167m = £47million.

Net spend of £47m and they’ve added 4 quality players

With considerable hesitation, I add this ramble from dragon1 to the thread.

----------------------------
Main striker target is playing in prem not at a bottom 3 team or top 4 from last seasons table so that gives u a good clue he will cost around 50 mil will only happen if we shift Tanguy we have interest in Tanguy but not at the 42 mill DL wants...(1/2)
...the striker will only happen if Tanguy goes imo unless we sell others and as things stand no firm interest in our players apart from serge. my feeling is serge and Tanguy will go and the Korean lad , 1 of the 3 right backs Ive spoken about and the striker will come in. (2/2)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the caveat that this is likely BS, the site that shall not be named thinks the main striker target is Danny Ings.

I disagree.

I think it's Raul Jimenez, given Wolves will not have European football this season.

I also note that RJ's agent is Jorge Mendes.

This would be the complete opposite of Moneyball.

Again, going back to the scouting department thing - it really is a desperate sign if we'd be willing to spend £40m+ on a 28 year old Danny Ings or a 29 year old Raul Jimenez rather than trust our own judgement on potential from the continent.

If we were United and had ungodly revenue streams with which to spunk money everywhere, and had the same need for a backup striker, then it would be understandable. For us, however, it's a room temperature IQ move.

You think that the club would take initiative in shifting its best players (next season)?
Why wouldn't it? You sound surprised but as Tottenham fan why would you even be shocked by it.
Let's get real here Kane would you assume like others to start having medals to show his family in years to come not a couple of finalists ones.
The question is can he achieve these top prizes at spurs, answer is probably not or at least very limited, so at 27/28 he might want to progress to a club that gives him a better chance.
If that happens then of course levy will ask heaven and earth for him, with that some funds would be allocated to the team with the rest helping to pay off outstanding loans, surely you can see the business brain of levy being all over this.

Havertz to Chelsea

Hahahaha we are fucked. This club was right there and pissed it away

Gutting it really is. If it wasn’t hard enough breaking the top 4, it’s now going to be near enough impossible. Liverpool and City are obviously on a different planet, but add a quality Chelsea side that are buying some unbelievable players, plus a very strong United side who bought brilliantly in Fernandes, we literally have no chance. Chelsea are buying absolute quality, whilst we are being linked to Troy Deeney. Utterly depressing.
