Genuinely looks like we have made an attempt to sign Zaniolo. That makes me thing one of two things.

1- We have more funds than we are letting off and are looking at a CAM type player.
2 - Ndombele could be on the way out and we’re looking for a replacement (creative player)

He’s not a good goalie and at best a very mediocre back-up. He has zero chance to ever take over from Lloris in the future and was bad when he had to take over last year.

So I think selling him makes perfect sense. However if his replacement is Joe Hart then there is no way we can sell him because Hart absolutely sucks and cannot be relied on to play in any game for us let alone be the back-up.
This is why some of us didnt want Hart. We now could possibly sell Gazzaniga who is bang average but that leaves Hart as no 2 and playing cup games even if Hugo stays fit, which going by recent seasons isnt likely. Hart has been abysmal for 4 or 5 years and is a huge risk starting in any game. . If we'd have bought a good no 2 to push Hugo then we could sell Gazzaniga and laugh at how much we made on a very average keeper. Now we're in a catch 22 or as Joe calls it a drop 22.

I think number 1.

We are going to be in a negative net spend again this season.

Hjobjerg is not a terribly good passer and certainly not what anyone would call creative. He does nothing to help us break down a parked bus, will not help us move the ball up the pitch allowing GLC more ability to focus on linking with the front 3 and does little to nothing to take pressure off the back 4 if being pressed.

Doherty has legit questions about how he can play in a back 4, even in Mourinho's supposed system where the RB is allowed to go forward more.

There are upgrades over the poor options we had before but not upgrades compared to what other teams in the top 4 have which is what we need to be gauging these moves against if we want to be up there and they do absolutely zero to address our lack of creativity or ability to create offense. Especially if Winks is used as the replacement for the Ndombele role.

Is that a bad thing?
Nope.

It means we have more money than we're letting on. And the whole one in one out thing is mostly bollocks.
Agree with Totti. Wouldn’t surprise me if we get the priority positions (Defensive mid, right back and striker) sorted first, so we don’t show our hand and aren’t quoted stupid amounts.

Then we know what we have left to go and improve areas not have urgency. Also allows us to see who is available come later in the window, in case any players become available (Grealish, Van de Beek, Rakitic).

This stinks of pre-planning. First there are negotiations with ex Spurs player Scott Parker regarding Gazzaniga, followed by signing up Joe Hart with an offer that obviously guaranteed Cup appearances (at least) in the season ahead. I just hope this seemingly ingenious "plan" doesn't come back to bite us in the bum.

Agreed. We're doing all this cheaper business first and rather shrewdly, but even trying for Zaniolo is a 50m+ kind of outlay in itself.
